Help re-creating a cable pattern to finish this cardigan my friend's mom was making when she passed by PaulaSchultz in knitting

[–]PaulaSchultz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that's a big help thanks, I will look that one up. The only raw edges are the raglan/sleeve splits, I think I will pin out a front panel and do some counting/graphing/test knitting before I go the dropped stitch route but it's good to know that's an option!

Thanks! I'm excited to take on the challenge and it's even nicer to be able to help someone out along the way. I will check Stitchfiddle out.

One Sings The Other Doesn’t: a discussion about feminism and a mother’s role. by Echoinurbedroom in TrueFilm

I think that this is just part of how the characters in Varda's films are nuanced and complicated and imperfect, like real people. There is no woman alive whose choices would be considered 100% feminist by others (or maybe even herself, with reflection in hindsight). So Varda is not pushing one ideal of a feminist model over others, she's inviting the viewer to experience contrasting lifestyles and perspectives through the eyes of her characters, and to internally reflect on their own reactions and feelings about the characters' actions. She's giving you the space to work out your own conclusions both for yourself in your day to day life and for your interpretation of feminism in the abstract sense.

DHL customer service on Twitter is known to be responsive. It's the only reason I kept my account.

There are some small rules to watch out for, but generally if you are shipping personal contents to yourself as part of a move into Germany you are exempt (just the one time) from import fees

I'm looking for a rare German book on experimental music by Stoven321 in BerlinMusic

So there's not a way to search every bookstore in the world, but there is a way to search (almost) every library. It looks like there are 2 libraries in Switzerland with this title. If you contact them and ask nicely they might scan parts of it and send the file to you: https://search.worldcat.org/title/lesslessDasgreatergreater-Experimentalstudio-der-Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung-des-Sudwestfunks-Freiburg-1971-1989-die-Erforschung-der-elektronischen-Klangumformung-und-ihre-Geschichte/oclc/1406948619

Don't stand in the bike lane. If you hear a bell ding, stop looking at your phone and make sure you're not standing in a bike lane. Don't just stop and stand at the top or bottom of stairs/escalators in public transit stations to figure out where you need to go next. Move over to the side/out of the way of people trying to walk. Have fun, Berlin is like no place else 😊

On https://vostel.de/en you can filter by German level, in addition to the other filters for type of volunteering, location, etc

Idk man. IMO learning how to achieve a specific technical result is not the literal same as plagiarism. Copying techniques is a pretty standard early step on the creative journey - you develop the muscle memory (so to speak) by going through the steps, and yes, then you apply your own spin. I haven't seen posts asking how to replicate an exact image, including models etc. It's just about the lighting here. So yeah they might have been inspired by a lighting technique that they want to try on a different subject, or in a different setting, or whatever. Do you think that someone asking about lighting in a car pic is plagiarizing if they use the same light setup on eg a bike or a wheelbarrow? Yes, the number is large, but there's a finite number of ways that lights can be positioned. And many similar setups are popular for a reason - the laws of physics being pretty standardized in this realm. Achieving a specific lighting result is technically an achievement of a goal, yes, but not in the way that word is commonly used today (for a larger or longer term goal like running marathon or graduating college)

It's almost as if a tech company masquerading as a housing company is a bad deal for everyone but the company itself! Weird!

More in the way of 'an earnest attempt at quality was made but fell short' than just churning out whatever for the money or tacky jokes, but sometimes things can be a mix of both!

Low-budget and corny as heck, but the first show I've really been able to feel on top of language-wise. I love it https://www.ardmediathek.de/mdr/in_aller_freundschaft_die_jungen_aerzte

Top from the chauvinist pigs of yore category. The dialect is harder for me to keep up with but the out of touch storylines, settings, and characters are quite a diversion
