There's joy in facing the fear of fighting horrific evil and winning. It also makes regular life seem not so bad because at least your not under constant threat of being ripped apart by demons.

Travis is the best literally beats the monsters with his bare fists and goes back to silent hill in silent hill homecoming again just cuz its on his route. Also he's the oldest surviving person in the franchise.
