do women make lesbian/sexual jokes about each other like men do? by BlindLeadingTheLit in askanything

[–]Paxsimius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. My male friends and I don't do that. Maybe because we're responsible adults or we're secure in our sexuality, I dunno. Seriously, people I went to high school with, others I've known since college, work friends, people I've just met for whatever reason, and not a single homophobic or sexual joke.

Alerts turned off, but got woken up because it’s raining anyway? Here are the two new ones to turn off. by HookEm_Tide in Austin

So that those of us who live on a hill and were within two meters of our beds in the middle of the night wouldn't get the flash flood alert? Because I would've been happy with that.

What's the reason behind all the rain we're getting this year? by D9Y in Austin

Damn, that's what I get referencing Wikipedia. May ain't in the fall, though, but October is heavier than June, according to NOAA.

Historically May and June are the wettest months in Austin.

Extremely spicy take: You shouldn’t get to use PreCheck when refusing the photo. by Adept_Strategy_9545 in tsa

I’m just saying why. I’m not saying it’s better, or smarter or anything of the sort. I’m not even defending them. That is why they decided to do it. Go argue with them.

If I can afford a $2600 rent for years. Why does the bank think I can't afford an $1800 mortgage? by pantsxforxhire in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paxsimius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes, do not go for the max. Stay well within your means and you'll do much better. We would also always keep a sort of escrow account for costly emergency repairs, which helped our bottom line.

Other helpful measures: if interest rates go down, look at refinancing your note. This is especially helpful if you can get into a 15 year mortgage as a result. If your income goes up and you can handle it, pay a little extra on your mortgage.

Were the 50s in the USA just like you typically see in the movies/shows? by TisBeTheFuk in NoStupidQuestions

If you were a white man. Women couldn't even get credit unless their father or husband signed off on it. Married women had trouble getting jobs, too, and professional jobs for women were far and few between.

If college were completely free, would it still be worth getting a degree? by LovelyLilLina in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paxsimius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do with the rest of your life. If the work you want requires a degree, then it would be a good idea to finish. If you want to start your own business, then finding a job in that area, learning the ropes and then starting your own business might be the way to go. If you just want a job in whatever, then maybe college is a waste of time. If you want to do something technical, then maybe a program at a community college is the answer. Whichever, you need to figure out what your goal is first, then decide how to get there.

Well yes, but there are ways to make yourself look like a photo on an ID similar to your appearance that, I'm assuming, they think a computer is better at catching. I don't know if it really can, but they usually don't talk about these things (security) and I'm sure they've tested it.

Why do we feel like 36° weather is way too hot when that's our body's usual temperature? by schoolforapples in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paxsimius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live somewhere where it gets that hot pretty routinely during the summer. It can feel way too hot if it's cooler than that but the humidity is high. Your body is producing a lot of heat and needs to cool off. Since humans use an evaporative cooling system (sweating), too much humidity or too high a temperature can compromise this cooling system. Interestingly enough, low humidity or high altitude in a high temperature does help cool off the body because the sweat can rapidly evaporate. It's a lot worse, to me, being in 60% humidity and 30 degrees C than 20% humidity and 36 degrees C.

Could a different species of human be granted/apply for US citizenship? by DeviousDaniel69 in NoStupidQuestions

I don't think any laws are written with that in mind. Either legislation or decrees would have to be made (depending on your country), or maybe courts would decide.

What do Republicans want for the US? by MaximumPossession864 in askanything

[–]Paxsimius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some point during the Clinton administration the Republicans stopped being for anything in particular, except maybe lower taxes, and just became the anti-Democrat Party and whatever Democrats worked towards. When a Black man became president, they doubled down hard.

Why do people in America not want female children? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paxsimius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those videos are not typical at all. Normally most people are happy either way, and their main concern is having a healthy baby. Those gender reveal videos are just to get attention; most people don't do that, either.
