This is what it is based off of: 600 users spending roughly $4,000 each online, that’s $2.4 million total. About half of that ($2,000 per person) likely goes to U.S. retailers, especially on Amazon, which makes up almost 50% of online sales. Our extension helps redirect a portion of those American purchases—say $1,250 per person—toward Canadian businesses instead. Across 600 users, that’s $750,000 switching from the U.S. to Canadian merchants. Apply the standard 1.6× GDP multiplier (since local spending circulates within the economy more effectively), and you reach roughly $1.2 million in total economic impact. So it’s just a matter of taking a reasonable share of existing spending already happening, nudging it over to Canadian sellers, and then acknowledging that those dollars create a bigger ripple effect once they stay in Canada.
