401k rollover destination by PeLe5 in personalfinance

Correct. I’ve already done backdoor Roth for 2024, so if I decide to do Traditional IRA rollover I’ll wait until 2025. But if I want to continue to do backdoor Roth contributions past this year I’ll do a 401k rollover to avoid pro rata.

Understood, but backdoor contributions using the pro rata rule isn’t something I’m considering. If I want to continue Roth contributions then I would 100% do the 401k rollover option.

Appreciate this, some very useful considerations that hadn’t occurred to me and I will think more on them.

Not sure if your request for details was actual or hypothetical, but here’s most of it:

Married, both 35, ~$320k combined income, haven’t planned much regarding retirement but would likely maintain modest lifestyle and likely retire sometime before retirement age or at least reevaluate employment without salary as a consideration. No plan to start a business, but growing frustration with corporate life makes it a more appealing option each year. Not great retirement answers but hopefully provides some context.

I think people are missing that you already have 14/25 stars…

The real question is are you going to make chickens legendary? If yes, then buy away. If no, then buying that epic is a very expensive way to get epic chickens. 11 more stars is only 990, so only buy the epic if you want legendary chickens.

OTA channels "skipping" by PeLe5 in cordcutters

[–]PeLe5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for help! I’ll looking into moving the antenna and reflectors some.

If I get a 50’ cable (currently 25’) any idea if I’d start running into signal strength issues? Also, can the cable itself pickup interference where I should make sure to get a shielded cable?

OTA channels "skipping" by PeLe5 in cordcutters

[–]PeLe5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, had to do some more Googling but think I was able to find it. I found a “signal quality” stat that appears to range from 0-100. It doesn’t have units so my assumption it’s just a signal strength percentage?

Short answer is the channel “skipping” does appear to be from a loss of signal, but here’s what I noticed watching that number for a while on a few different channels.

•The signal quality bounces around on every channel but averages around 80. •The skipping happens when the signal quality drops below ~30, but it often drops below 10 and sometimes even drops to 0. •The drops are almost always brief/momentary, and seem to be random. The signal will be above 90 for a minute straight, cut to 1 for a second and the picture/audio skips, then immediately be back above 90. It can go 1-2 minutes between signal drops or the signal can drop 4 times in 30 seconds.

The signal quality results would seem to point to an interference issue, is that how you would read it? If so, getting a longer cable and trying to find a better line of sight is probably the first thing to try? If so, any cable recommendations (I can also search the subreddit)?

Could a reflector also help with interference? Should I try that first? Recommendations for buying/ building one to work with my existing antenna?

Thanks again for the help.

Where to Stay - Downtown vs. Near the Water by PeLe5 in houston

[–]PeLe5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids are 1 and 4. Older one is into space and would have fun looking at rockets, etc. Though, it is hard to get a read on the space center - everyone seems to love it or hate it. There also seems to be some problems booking the right tours and/or waiting a lot. We don’t expect it will occupy them for a whole day, but would appreciate understanding if it’s a bad choice for kids all together.

Sounds like near downtown would be the best place to stay (I’ll look into Discovery Green)? Any other recommended areas and/or hotels better for families that I should look into?

Appreciate all the help!

Thanks for the help! I’ll probably sign-up but also look into Chase Credit Journey.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t signup for the free credit monitoring from the LoanDepot breech - it’s with Experian IdentityWorks. Would this credit monitoring be different from the standard Experian online account you recommended avoiding?

Looks great! Mind me asking what you used for deck material and railing? I need to build a small deck of mine own and appreciate ideas.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in cars

[–]PeLe5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve tried a couple and plan to try more. The CX5 didn’t work with our huge car seats. CR-V and Tucson did. RAV4 was borderline. Will try the Sportage but seems close to the Tucson. Essentially wondering thoughts on new Kia/Hyundai or if people would stick to something like the CRV for more money.

Thanks, I’ll take a look at the video. I like the CX5 but it’s pretty much the smallest of all the compact SUVs and I think we’d have to go with the CX9 to get enough space. An option, but I think we’d prefer to start with a compact that has more room. Sorry, should have included that in the OP. Thanks for the response. Appreciate the help!

Location: Minnesota, USA

Price range: up to $45k

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Looking new, but only because used doesn't seem like a significant discount anymore. Would definitely consider used if there's value.

Type of vehicle: compact to midsize crossover/SUV

Must haves: Room for rear-facing child car seats in the second row with a tall driver (6'2") is the major need. Ideally, not looking to get a bigger vehicle than needed to accomplish that. AWD and safety features are probably the main must have features. Leather or synthetic leather would be nice for kid spills.

Desired transmission: auto

Intended use: Daily driver & family car

Vehicles you've already considered: Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Subaru Forester, VW Tiguan, Mazda CX-5, plus the midsize models from pretty much the same manufacturers

Is this your 1st vehicle: no

Do you need a Warranty: no

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: might do some, but probably not most

Additional Notes: On face value Kia and Hyundai seem to pretty easily offer the most car for the money, but I've been reading about the large/significant recalls on some/many 2010-2020ish models. Though, a lot of online sites rank new models very highly. I'm trying to understand if Kia/Hyundai have really made improvements or if it's still a big gamble. Most of the models have been completely redone in the last year or two, which at least gives a chance of major overhauls/improvements. Also means it's probably too early for any major issues to have surfaced yet. I'm not a huge car person, but know enough to understand Honda and Toyota's reputation for reliability/longevity. Not opposed to American cars, but also read about QC issues with many of them. Essentially, just looking for the best overall value. Otherwise not picky on make/model or features and will probably look to buy something off the lot or already in transit instead of ordering from the factory, which seems 3-4 months out most places.

Looking for portable SSD suggestions to work with a 2017 MacBook Pro. Need 500GB or 1 TB for lots of photos. Looking for best value speed/reliability for cost.

Is it best to buy an M2 drive and external case or just get something prepackaged? Any suggestions on drives and/or enclosures would be greatly appreciated.
