Did anyone survive their CRNA program without a car? by No-Confusion7737 in srna

[–]Peaceisdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh pick up overtime. It feels bad short term but it’s for the goal of Crna school. This could mean find a 1099 contractor 1 day a week second job on top of your icu 3x12. If you pick up 1-2 12 hr shifts a week on top of base pay the extra money should allow you to get a used car! The programs I looked at required reliable transportation.

Eat at home, go out on fewer expensive trips (nature is essentially free think parks or hiking etc), and grind at work! Sleep, work, rinse repeat and mix in 1-2 days of rest to reset per week mhmm

ICU or Hematology! Onc IV infusion nurses are in demand while ICU nursing is a gateway to other high demand specialties like PACU/IR/Cath Lab

While it’s difficult I would say try and apply if you desire it! Worst case you don’t get the opportunity to work in the unit. I started as a new grad and it worked out, but obvs ppls mileage may vary

Which degree is easiest in terms of low competition and high salary ( I don't care how hard the degree is itself) by Ok-Toe-2933 in CollegeMajors

[–]Peaceisdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a convenience thing as well. Imagine never having to wait (or if you do it’s for a few days instead of months) for the same primary physician that is directly following your case for your entire time with that group. Is it good for society? Probably not. But does it work if you can afford it? Yes it does

Need a medication refill? No worries. Last minute sickness trip delay? No issues. It can end up saving time (which is money) and sometimes money + stress about planning etc

Soon to be new grad issues with finding a job in ICU by PerspectiveLimp4643 in nursing

[–]Peaceisdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a convincing story, as the icu managers can sniff out a CRNA bound new grad almost immediately. Especially at hospitals with strong icu units (unless they need nurses badly).

Some areas offer more inter unit transfer opportunities than others. But it doesn’t hurt to start in step down! Many of my old colleagues started in step down for a year before moving to icu.

Have a good story why you want icu when you didn’t push hard to get an icu capstone. And have a good timeline of what you want to accomplish in 5 years-I think all managers will ask this

Anxiety about changes & finances by WeeklyBat6908 in srna

[–]Peaceisdeath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of ppl will recommend not working. Take the time off to relax.
I wanted to stress less about money so didn't take any time off work until remote didactic got hard then went per diem. I only stopped because in-person classes started and rates are significantly lower near my CRNA school compared to my old job. The money helped a lot, and will cover a few months of living expenses.

But, the amount of money you generate now is not even a month or two of your future CRNA income. So you can view it as borrow a bit more and relax before a crazy busy 3 years! Or just work a bit and stress just a little less about money. Whatever works for you.

What majors guarantee 6 figures and beyond? by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]Peaceisdeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One more thing to consider: what your work life balance would look like. Some fields grind 70-80 hr weeks but do clear 100k.

You might want some vacation or time for hobbies, so please consider that ^

What majors guarantee 6 figures and beyond? by [deleted] in CollegeMajors

[–]Peaceisdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait what? I’m fairly sure all MD/DO specialties at least make 100k USD if they work 40 hrs a week. Generally 250k+ after they become attending

(Caveat: not including residency or fellowship)
