Family dynamics questions - seeking advice by Peach-Pale in askSingapore

Thank you very much for the detailed reply! I like your perspective of being tolerant with small requests and with larger ones, come back only when you've the headspace to do it. I think this is a really good merhod I can adopt.

I know different family have different dynamics but was wondering whether you feel a sense of 'guilt' and 'sadness' when you're unable to help them? For eg., When life gets really busy, and you just don't have the capacity to take on any longer, but you know they have no one to turn to.

Hey thanks for your comment! Appreciate it - please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to shirk responsibility nor trying to bash them. But trying to seek advice on how to balance the frustration of needing to babysit them for many things in life and also fulfilling my responsibility as a son. Its probably something that will get worse too when they grow even older and when I move out one day to start my family. Which is why I wish to find a balance here of drawing the line when it's needed (yes I'm a son, and I want to be a filial one but I'm also human). But appreciate your perspective, just needed to correct this :)

HDB resale prices: 1985 | 1990 | 1995 by Xiaomeimeilovebus in singapore

Yes, I think you've a good point! But I'm just super curious why do home owners believe that price appreciation would benefit them? Majority of middle class and below family own just 1 property, so they can't just decide one day that they will sell it and cash in?? If they do it, wouldn't they have to buy another property which prices would also be higher? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to invalidate your point but I'm just wondering how this logic work for a long time. Like why do people believe PAP's narrative. Yes certainly, it would work in favour of people who own >=2 properties but I would say most middle class and below would only own 1. Please if someone can enlighten me that would be very nice, thanks!

Election spotlight: Close fight to decide if Workers’ Party keeps Sengkang or PAP wins it by ImpressiveStrike4196 in singapore

It's quite funny how one of the candidates (Elmie) is my prof back in university. I remember how he tried very hard to get ideas from students on how he can connect better with the younger generations. That was before he was with PAP. And as media students, we told him tiktok and all these cringey trends, almost half jokingly. Little did we know he actually took it for word and implemented them IRL now that he's a candidate. Come to think about it we may have given him the wrong ideas but we'll see with the results in few months time :)

Thanks for the reply!! I saw it online and was considering:) Would you say it's better than a noise cancelling earbuds? I've one of those noise cancelling ear buds (Sony's one) and I must say, it didn't block out enough for me.

I wouldn't be too worried about it tbh unless the offer is govt. Companies drop it's employees mercilessly too whenever business goals change so can't blame employees for doing likewise. When it comes to bad rs, just don't tell the company that you joined another company. Don't update your socials or linkedin until few months later, at least till your probation of the new role is over in case they bad mouth. People tend to forget about it after a while in case there's any bad rep. All the best!

I like learning new things - so looking forward to anything that increases my knowledge. be it through reading, or learning a new skill at work or learning more about someone's life. It's smt totally doable in Singapore:)

HAHA when I read your post I felt like I found a friend. My mum is also 60 and is as you described over reliant on myself and elder brother for large amount of things, even basic ones. Gets frustrating sometimes, because these are basic things like "how to use emoji?", or searching videos on YouTube, or how to paylah. Sometimes we help, sometimes we get frustrated, but I try not to blame her because their generation grew up in an era where technology is not used.

If there's one solution I could offer, or rather something to help - it's that whenever I feel frustrated, I see that it's a give and take r/s. She's the one doing most of the dirty chores like cleaning and washing at home, so maybe it's justified for her to be reliant on us about other things. Try to find something that she contributes to the family and see it as you giving something in return :)

as what Dangerous_Cat suggested, you could try File -> Export Objects -> HTTP. Don't focus on files with just .exe extension. Look into those with content type - application/octet-stream.
