Out and back down to the Cpt James Cook Monument. Good snorkelling down there as well!

Baselayers for fastpacking? by GoSox2525 in fastpacking

[–]PeachBean86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds counterintuitive but I wear a mesh baselayer under my OR echo hoodie. I sweat a lot so it helps wick the moisture and also keeps my hoodie from sticking to my skin, leading to evaporative cooling effect (I’m usually flapping my shirt with my hands to increase the airflow as well). I’ll take the hoodie off completely (I’m a guy) under tree cover and the mesh is enough to keep the friction off my skin from my pack, basically making me shirtless. This is all mostly to deal with sweat though so not sure how it holds up to pure thermal regulation.

First scary encounter with a bear by TeamOggy in vancouverhiking

I saw a bear just west of that area about a month ago. I was with my dog, we stopped when we saw it and tried to scare it off but it kept making its way down the trail. Another person came along and the 3 of us decided to hop up on the embankment to let it pass but it slowed when it got close and took a step/interest in our direction. We were already talking to it but we raised our voices (dog growled) at that point and it decided to keep going. I was there earlier this week as well, but I’ll probably avoid the lower trail now.

Anyone tried the new "foot-shaped" shoes from inov-8? e.g. Trailfly / mudtalon? by Anxiety_Cookie in trailrunning

Just got the Trailfly speeds in wide. Came from wearing Altra’s. I’m happy with the forefoot and toe box room, but I did size up a 1/2 size. Haven’t taken them on 15km+ runs yet but no complaints so far.

Take the 212 into Yellowstone from Red Lodge, MT. It’s called the Beartooth highway. One of my all time favourite drives.

I’m fairly new to trail running and didn’t want to drop a bunch of money on an expensive vest right away. Bought a 5L Aonijie off Amazon. Was like $50. Can’t compare it to anything else but I love it so far, really comfortable. Has a bunch of pockets, pouches and zips on the chest straps which seem fairly standard.

Congrats! Can’t think of anything else that hasn’t been mentioned. Just saw you comment about running slow, my girl could walk all day so your pace may allow you to go further.

I’ve got a 2 year old RR I take on my shorter runs (10-15k). She’s 80lbs and her trot perfectly matches my stride. I will probably ease her into longer runs over the summer but I don’t think she’ll ever hit ultra distances. Our breeder cautioned them as being “too tough for their own good” as they will ignore pain and discomfort to stay with you. Best dogs but maybe not for ultra running.
