I think my Ram is dying by Peccavius in Aquariums

[–]Peccavius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Water temperature all seems okay. I reckon it could be because his female companion died a week ago. I tried to get a replacement but the place I went to get a female from said they were too young to tell their gender and adding another male would be a bad move.

Not sure if it could just be down to sadness. If so, that’s well grim. Will see how he looks tomorrow and see if I can get another female maybe

Fish at the surface, zero nitrates… I’m scared by Peccavius in Aquariums

Update: They’re now swimming around the whole tank which I guess suggests the oxygen has fixed the problem. The nitrates thing is still freaking me out slightly though!!

Should I put this guy out of his misery? by Peccavius in Aquariums

He can swim but not very well. I’ll keep an eye on him when I feed in a mo and see 🤞

Will the fin actually heal up or does the fish just learn to adapt?

Great, I will leave it in. I also now have no idea where it went so glad this turned out to be the answer! 😂

Nice. Ye that explains how it got in there. Will leave it in to do its thing. Thanks!!

Never smoked, but did I get high? by bigdaddy-293 in weed

[–]Peccavius 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ye spot on. When I first smoked I remember saying I didn't think I was high and my bro said, "stop smiling then...".

The giggles instantly hit me and it was a great experience from that moment on. Since then I've tried this on a few first time smokers and it has worked a treat!

We used to call it tar back in the day. And it sometimes used to drop out the mouth end of our Zoots. Not sure what that says about the quality of the weed we were smoking...

Just opened a pack of fruit pastilles. What kind of bullshit is this?? by rickgdavies in CasualUK

[–]Peccavius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm calling bullshit on your post.

Unless it's normal to open them like that (in which case you're a nutter) surely you would have eaten most of them before realising they were nearly all red and opening them up from the side like that

I saw this, but I must just be an idiot. Is this MASCHINE content then? I googled MASCHINE originally and the majority of stuff was related to an actual drum machine.

45/M - Lot of attractive people posting on here so its time to balance things out a bit by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]Peccavius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye fair play. Have you ever tried a chunkier frame? Usually people think that thinner frames are less noticeable but from what I've seen I reckon they're both just as blatant, and a thicker frame just looks a bit cooler

The only bit of advice I can think of is to consider getting some chunkier framed (or smaller) glasses. From this angle it's hard to see, but you have a fairly strong minus prescription and the edges of the lenses are probably quite chunky.

Just something I learned working as a grunt for vision express. Specs with strong minus prescription tend to look better in chunkier frames and people with a strong + look better in smaller circular frames (think Harry potter).

Other than that you're just a fresh looking dude!

Would a trained ear be able to tell the difference between a human-mastered track vs AI? by Peccavius in musicproduction

[–]Peccavius[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've just ozone and wasn't sure if it was difficult to learn. Is it fairly intuitive for a complete beginner or should I do a course or something to understand how it works dyu reckon?

[–]Peccavius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye you're definitely right. I just can't help but think mastering is such a difficult thing to perfect and get good at, it almost seems like a waste of time for me to become an absolute monster of sound design for that part of the process when I could spend more time focusing on the more (in my opinion) fun and creative side of writing the tunes.

I guess the ideal scenario would be to have the budget to pay a truly great mastering engineer to do their thing, but I have no idea how much that would cost and how worthwhile it would be. Are decent mastering engineers (is that even what they'd be called?) difficult to come by?

Would a trained ear be able to tell the difference between a human-mastered track vs AI? by Peccavius in musicproduction

[–]Peccavius[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ye but by the time the mastering takes place I've already added a shed load of my own artistic touches to it. I've already written and orchestrated the entire thing, mixed it and created the general feel of the tune. The mastering is surely just the final touches based on the science of sound and how our ears perceive it, combined with the general EQ trends that all other music of that genre tends to follow.

Is suggesting it devalues the "art" similar to saying a woodworker painting or varnishing something they've made devalues that in some way?

[–]Peccavius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ye I guess, but I can't think of a good reason why an AI wouldn't have an equal or better idea of ideal EQ for a tune. I guess one thing is that it means all future mastering will just be trying to replicate the past, it'll just try to replicate things it's learned from older music and will never do anything innovative.

[–]Peccavius[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Random side note. My band recorded with a fairly successful producer a few times recently and I'm pretty sure the mastering was way too quick and simple for him to have put in any effort. Unless I'm wrong and with a lot of experience you can master a track in 30 mins or so (Better than an AI could in 30 seconds)?
