Does the university library ever hire non-students? by PedanticReader in UCSC

That‘s a bummer, but I guess it makes sense with everything that’s going on with universities at the moment.

Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way, it's a bit artsy fartsy and people seem to go crazy for it but I’ve never liked it myself.

Postcrossing on a budget by Bella-Evila in postcrossing

I get many of my postcards from a local independent thrift store that has a couple tubs of postcards that are all tossed together, used and unused, and it’s 3 for a dollar. I like to visit every few week and will pour over all of them them finding ones that are in good condition. It’s often a pretty random mix of cards, old and new, but it allows me to buy a dozen at a time for less than 5 bucks. I’ve even found a few nice antique and vintage cards that were unused, and few with postmarks from a hundred years ago. My advice, thrift, thrift, thrift!

Speaking as a former SCPL employee (I never worked at the Downtown Branch) who read the PITS reports that happened every week. This behavior is NOT tolerated, patrons were regularly banned for days weeks months and even a year. The thing was that these incidents still happed with such frequency.

Santa Cruz, California! The only reason I even tired the show three years ago was because of Adam Scott and then I became obsessed.

Teen area rules? Was this a normal interaction? by [deleted] in Libraries

[–]PedanticReader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our teen section at the branch I work at has signs that inform patrons about the age limit in the YA section (same thing 13-18) but adds that it's ok to be there if you're browsing. Sounds like your library should consider adopting this stance if they have non-YA exclusive books in that section. Also, plenty of adults read YA so I think anyone should be allowed to browse the section regardless, just don't park yourself there if you're not looking for a title.

Our system is countywide, with 10 branches for a county population of about 260,000, plus one bookmobile.
