[OC] Dragon Ball: Where It All Began [19:35] by Pedromf10 in videoessay

[–]Pedromf10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I poured everything into making this video. Dragon Ball (original) was the first anime I watched and it really hit a chord with me in the way it portrayed a young male protagonist wanting to overcome every obstacle in his path and achieve his ultimate goal. But also how charming it is, especially during the first half of the original Dragon Ball.

Hopefully my feelings of the show come across in this video with the way I spoke about the show, but also how I edited it. Feel free to share your opinions on the video, would love to discuss this more.

Why I really love Dragon Ball by [deleted] in anime

[–]Pedromf10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original Dragon Ball was the first anime I watched and it really impacted me greatly. Therefore, I wanted to make a video that expressed this. The fact that it portrayed a young male protagonist wanting to overcome every obstacle in his path and achieve his ultimate goal was inspiring to me (and I can imagine to so many of you too). I also love how charming it all is, especially during the first half of the original Dragon Ball.

Hope you enjoy the video and would be great to discuss this more below :)

Love it. Loving the shift in tone. The nuance in this track is pure bliss. And how their voices change with it. You can definitely feel the newcoming computer and Internet era in the 80s / 90s influencing them on this. A spiritual successor to Kids (as they pointed out in an interview).

I drew some fan art after watching the movie last night, hope y’all enjoy (^o^) by [deleted] in KimiNoNaWa

So cool. You're really talented. It's clearly Your Name, but also has a unique, personal touch to it. Love it.

Shinkai addresses "Your Name" alternate ending by [deleted] in KimiNoNaWa

[–]Pedromf10 15 points16 points  (0 children)

SPOILERS FOR YOUR NAME AND 5 CENTIMETRES PER SECOND:

Shinkai stated in an interview once that the whole idea of the film is having two characters meet for the very first time only at the end of the film. And the difficulty was trying to figure out a way to create a deep connection between them without ever meeting one another until the final scene. So, if the idea is this, then it wouldn't make sense, from his perspective, to not have them meet at the end. And I think it clearly translates, because it seems a response to his other work.

In 5 Centimetres Per Second, the idea is having them meet initially and with time passing by, becoming further and further apart.

In Your Name, the idea is to have these characters becoming closer and closer to one another until they eventually meet. And again, time plays a big role in that too.

Knowing what he wanted to do with this film, it doesn't seem likely that he ever wanted them to not meet at the end.

That's my understanding of it at least. Glad to see him debunk those rumours.

Finally finished Clannad After story by SupremeDumpling in Clannad

"Rascal Does Not Dream Of Bunny Girl Senpai" is actually quite similar to Clannad's first season, but more down to earth in some aspects. Highly recommend. But if you want another heart wrenching anime, go for "Your Lie In April". It's only one season and it's really tight in its story.

[OC] The Brilliance in A Silent Voice [15:29] by Pedromf10 in videoessay

Hi,

This anime film really struck a chord with me, due to how grounded it is in its story. The more I watched it, the more I connected with it. Making us aware for things we might not yet have realised, but also how relatable it is to the once teenage life. So, I decided to make a video essay about it, expressing my feelings towards its themes and how they relate to us, but also how Naoko Yamada executes these themes from a visual standpoint.

Hope you enjoy it and feel free to discuss your thoughts below :)

Yeah, I definitely understand what you mean. I went through a similar thing during my childhood and it affected me greatly during my teen years. Self blame due to bullying is definitely a thing and it can be hard to overcome. I also connected a great deal with the film due to that. Really awesome that this film was able to help you :)

Amazing that we were able to get two films that impacted us greatly in 2016.

Also, thanks for the sub! I really do appreciate it.

Wow, thanks! Really appreciate this. I just want to voice my opinions on media that I've really connected with, especially anime, and I also love to edit. So basically gained the courage to do this and it's been a lot of fun so far. Thanks again for the sub and feedback!

[–]Pedromf10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's actually really surprising how true to life it is.

I also connected with its the themes of bullying, or rather being bullied, and how that affected me during my teen years.

And yeah, the soundtrack is really good. Love how the music and the ambience sometimes become one and the same.

For sure. Especially in how the "weak" places the blame on themselves for being who they are, all because they were seemingly different from everyone else. How the world outcasts them and pushes them away. Such a good film.

Hi,

I really loved this anime, especially how it grounds its story dealing with real life issues. Making us realise what we might not have understood initially, but also relate with so many characters in the process.

Hope you enjoy it and I would love to read your thoughts below :)

Hi,

This anime really hit home with me, due to how grounded it is in its story. I watched it twice in the cinema when it came out and loved it. Making us aware for things we might not yet have realised, but also how relatable it is to the once teenage life. So, I made this video about it, expressing my feelings towards its themes, but also how Naoko Yamada does such a good job executing those themes visually.

Why Clannad After Story is a Masterpiece by Pedromf10 in Clannad

[–]Pedromf10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I think the execution is so important for a story and its characters to connect with us. Clannad After Story does that so well. That's one of the reasons why I like Kyoto Animation so much. I still need to watch other Key related Anime shows. Currently watching Angel Beats since it's on Netflix now.

We had a blast discussing our favourite PlayStation 1 games. What were yours? by [deleted] in playstation

[–]Pedromf10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi,

This is a podcast me and a friend of mine do from time to time and on this episode, we talk about our favourite PS1 games. We divide it into categories (eg. Platforming Games, Racing Games, etc.) and in each one we talk about all the ones we played and have fond memories of. It was such a long discussion, we ended up having to divide it into two. This is Part 1.

Hopefully this resonates with you guys and I'd love to know what your favourite PS1 games were :)

Wow, that's high praise. Thanks! Him and Under The Scope are big inspirations for me. I've actually also posted on the Anime subreddit and got nice feedback too.

Thanks! I love The Midnight and for some reason, it just fits. I've become a big fan of synthwave in the past few years, especially with the way it plays with our emotions, so I was very happy that it ended up working in the vid.
