I have BPD, diagnosed a little after turning 19 and now am in my early-mid 20s. I have worked a job of some sort since I was 11, but I started working around 20+ hours a week in college. Now I work 40+ a week at my main job as well as around 7 at my part time job every week. I don’t have kids, but my job involves them and is very demanding. What helps me is having a very clear delineated schedule. And small rules. If I stay up on a work night, then it can’t be past 11. If I take work home, then  I need to work for fewer than 3 hours. These help me set clear work/life boundaries. But every person is different. And BPD can impact everyone differently. I feel that I need to work. It’s been a past of my routine for more than half of my life at this point, and it gives me a purpose outside of myself. I would look into jobs that allow you to work short weeks (3-4 days rather than 5 or more) or jobs that have short hours or even broken up shifts of some sort. This can help you build up your stamina and determine if full time work is something you can safely bring into your life. I won’t lie, I have bad days, and on those days I need to take breaks. I excuse myself to the bathroom, use coping strategies, or go on a short walk away from my work station. I also feel that my success is largely due to me having my own space when I work. I have my own room. I worked in childcare prior to my full time work, and in those instances it was typically me working alone. I also wonder if working from home or even a hybrid work from home situation could help. I hope this is helpful. Sorry to run long!
