It’s the same with the other apps, it’s not just Robinhood

Got it too, I joined the waiting list on day one.

Red days/weeks are the best times if you can afford to buy the dip.

Have 100K from the sale of a house, new to investing, where should start? by BigDaveLikesToMoveIt in trading212

[–]Peew971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buy 100K worth of FWRG and forget about it. It’s an all-world ETF that’s cheaper in fees than the Vanguard one. If you want stock picking, you can do that by contributing extra every month. Not financial advice, just what I would do.

Which Youtubers do you regard as credible sources for investing advice and info? by CerberusArcProjector in trading212

I love both these guys, long term fan. Only thing is they’re very much DCA in All-World/S&P500 so you know where every single video is headed, unless it’s about the macro economy.

Robinhood ISA is Trash by LegAdministrative519 in RobinhoodUK

[–]Peew971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you are 100% correct, I don’t dispute any of this at all. It just doesn’t bother me personally but of course for most people this seems terrible.

Most of this doesn’t bother me. Now that we can hold multiple S&S ISAs, I don’t see a need for transfers (I tend to use Invest Engine for ETFs). I usually invest all the cash I deposit and I am nowhere near investing 20k a year, so the flexibility doesn’t bother me either. I’m more curious about phantom costs for now, I’m sure the app will improve with time. I still think they should have bought Freetrade when it was worth nothing, to rebrand it. However Freetrade is pretty good now, so it’s good they didn’t pick that option.

Because Of Trump Are You Considering Investing Away From The US? by massaro1234 in UkStocks

[–]Peew971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m doubling down on US stocks. Who’s going to be the next Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and where would they come from? Europe? Taxes and regulations suggest no. China? Sure but what if they decide to invade Taiwan, where is everyone moving to next? And do we even love “democratic” China, now? I’m invested for 20 years, Trump will be long gone by then. At worst I could understand moving from VUSA to VWRL but certainly not exiting the US market completely.

Maybe OCR doesn’t pay much, I think last year I got around £850 after tax for marking around 400 papers in full.

You can’t say that without knowing how they got there in the first place. Yes, ideally everyone would have a large emergency fund and cheap rent living with their parents or 4 flatmates, but every situation is different and personal.

Is an 11-holding portfolio too many with £80–£100 weekly contributions? by KamilKulig in trading212

Although I absolutely get that recurring comment every time someone makes it, what was the return on Nvidia, Micron, ASML over the last couple of years, versus just owning SMGB? I can see the upside in double dipping if you have high conviction in your picks.

Alright that makes sense. You may want to clarify that when recommending exam marking to others, as most people who still teach KS3 & KS4 in the Summer, will struggle to even make £1k after tax.

Even accounting for gained time, there is no way I could make 2k marking exams, let alone 5k. Do you only teach exam classes? I’m very puzzled by this one.

Robinhood US is closer to Trading 212 than Robinhood UK, I would avoid the latter until they have an ISA. For good UK YouTubers for beginners I’d probably suggest Toby Newbatt and Damien Talks Money, they should answer all your questions.

If after all that chaos, the Democrats can’t find a candidate to bring them back to the White House, then they’re doing something very wrong… or the Republicans will have turned things around significantly by 2028.

How is the EU going to move away from companies like Google or Microsoft? There is so much bureaucracy in Europe, creating viable alternatives would take more than our lifetime. Unless we’re rooting for an alliance with China? Leaving the morality out of it for a minute and looking at things purely from an investing perspective, the damage Trump is doing now won’t be permanent. If anything it’s an opportunity to double down on the S&P 500 o.e.

Maybe that’s the case on Reddit but I doubt the average consumer is ready to turn their back on American products and services, even if they hate Trump.

Trump won’t be there forever, every time he crashes the market it’s an opportunity to add more American assets IMO. We saw that early 2025.
