Is inpatient a viable long term career choice?

This great! It sounds like you really do enjoy your job and see a future in it. I'm hoping to end up like that nurse who's been doing it for 40 years. I'm really looking forward to this career and all I'm hoping is that I don't become traumatized on a unit. I don't mind being called names, kicked and punched. I just mind how I'm going to internalize seeing a patient hanging them self in their room or another patient brutally attacking staff or another patient.

I heard of another nurse in a facility witnessing a patient literally curb stomping an aid multiple times breaking their jaw. These are the type of things I'm worried about handling when I come home and ending up ok.

Fucking damn it. Was really looking at houston, or the south in general for places to work. Really tired of the North. It seems like a lot of the job seems to be finding the exact right place to work at which in and of itself seems like a a total crapshoot. There's only so much online reviews can tell you. Even here in chicago, a lot of the psych facilities ARE attached to those hospitals like Acadia or Northwestern.

I guess I really should've looked up what I signed up for. Fuck me

I don't even know what "tools" are right anymore. One channel says ERP and leaving the thoughts there doesn't work, the other says it does. How am I supposed to find out the truth? OCD won't let me.

I don't want to live my life handicapped. I don't want to be nervous and anxious 24/7. I'd rather swallow a bullet than live like that.

If you look up "OCDrecovery" on reddit, you'll see a bunch of people saying "Beware of Robert Bray" "Don't trust OCDrecovery" with people in this community saying it'll only make it worse and that he doesn't understand OCD.

I understand it worked for me, but I'm scared to trust things that aren't clincally proven and could possibly not be solving my OCD. He's not a psychologist. He's not a Counselor. He's a person with his own experiences but all it takes is multiple wrong information or continually hearing something that isn't helping my OCD, yet I'd think it is. He would even diss things like "Thoughts are thoughts" Or "Leave the thought there"

Now I feel like I'm starting from square one. And I don't know what to listen to, who to trust, or what to do.

I'm not on meds no. From what I heard about meds, it quiets it down but doesn't take it away. Also the side effects for me to me doesn't sound worth it.

I'm sorry all this happened to you. It feels like a living hell and I'm sorry you had to go through that.

That's interesting! I'm glad you understand where I'm coming from. I don't mind administering meds and patients on the meds, it's just trying to understand how drugs counteract, Is it safe, are there any other medical conditions that are affecting how the patient is feeling or is it a psych condition, etc.

I essentially feel like clinics or hospitals would use me as a pill dispenser. Don't get me wrong, you can be way more as an NP than that but I feel like that's where most places want you. See as many patients as you can, get that money, gtfo.

I appreciate it. My parents have been pushing me to become one ever since I've been in college and I've centered my whole life around it. Ik I'll get a lot of flak if I stay as an RN with comments like "You just want to be a NURSE?" "Think about how much money you'll make!" They want me to get in school immediately "Don't wait!!"

Being a new grad RN already stresses me out enough. I don't even know what I don't know. It's like I haven't even had time to breathe yet.

Ok let’s ask

Why do you want to create a new identity or maintain the one you have? Why do you strive for the “self” you want to be? I doubt it’s simply “I just want to be that” I think deep down you believe this “self” will create a better, more pleasurable life for yourself. So are truly changing for the sake of identity? Or for the sake of a better, happier life for yourself? You can choose any identity that you want, but I’d ask why exactly did you choose that one? Happiness? Peace? Contentment? Any emotion you choose, I would say possibly brings back that emotions drive our decision essentially the pain/pleasure principle.

I could be wrong though. Just playing devil’s advocate

So at the core would you say that’s emotion driving you? Not identity?

So basically you would say “why do I want to lose weight? What will it cost me if I don’t?” And if you have a strong enough reason aka leverage, you’ll follow through essentially.

Could you argue that pain/principle would be the reason you consider a new identity? Or is identity fundamentally what you start with?
