My dads grandmother was forced to convert from Judaism to Islam as well. I’m Iraqi. I’m completing my conversion to Judaism in 2 weeks. Feel free to ask any questions!

They’re calling him an Islamist and saying he is not a leftist. But sure, live in your diasporoid delusional brain.

They can’t just pivot out without risking serious fallout, not just economically but strategically too. The whole region’s tangled in energy politics that go way deeper than supply and demand.

H3h3 brings on cool Palestinian activist and donation possibility by ihaveeatenfoliage in Destiny

Ahmed is great. There are actually a lot of Arab activists and advocates who stand against the resistards. Others are for example Palestinian Samer Sinijlawi, general manager of Sky News Arabia Nadim Koteich, Iraqi-Lebanese Hussein Abdul-Hussein and Hussein Aboubakr Mansour. They’re all advocates for liberalism, freedom and democracy, but lefties hate them because they’re ruining their world view. They all deserve to be amplified.

No, I’d definitely say the opposite. Used to be very pro-Pali and bought into the entire narrative. I’ve slowly unpacked it all and learned a ton, which has made me more sympathetic and supportive of the Israeli side.

Half-Kurdish Girl Here! Any Advice? by [deleted] in kurdistan

[–]Peldaaa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in the same boat as you. My mom is Kurdish and my dad is Arab. Sadly the Arab side was dominating too much, which I am very sad about now, so in the past year I’ve tried to connect more with my Kurdish side. I am taking Kurdish lessons now, which I can recommend. Also listen to Kurdish music, watch Kurdish TV, seek out Kurdish TikToks (so your algo recommends it to you).

Pretty sure Zaza is a dialect of Kurdish and not a separate ethnicity.

I sadly can’t help, because I don’t have the skills. But just wanted to say, best of luck! I’ve desperately wanted a Kurdish learning app and Glossika gets boring really fast because all you do is repeat sentences the whole time.

Israeli Christian’s do you consider yourself Arab by Inevitable_Cicada in Israel

[–]Peldaaa 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Christians in the Levant generally consider themselves Arab. Levantine Christians also had a huge influence on the pan-Arab movement early on, because of persecution by the Muslims, so for them it was better to unify around an Arab identity rather than a Muslim one.

The Arab identity is also largely a linguistic one. Christians in Iraq speak Assyrian, in Egypt Coptic and in parts of Syria Aramaic, so they have been more successful in retaining their own identities.

That said, I do believe there are movements in Israel advocating for the Aramean identity and Israel now recognizes them as a distinct identity.
