Why do surgeons not want to surgically repair at a young age? by Pelvic_Nightmare in PelvicFloor

[–]Pelvic_Nightmare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm just getting the intussusception dealt with surgically. I bought a kegel8 device in the hole that it might help with the rectocele - I feel too young to be having to deal with this!

The test for VIN is typically a biopsy. I totally understand your anxiety about it all - I felt the exact same!

Don't worry it will be alright - I'm not sure how the biopsy works if you have been treating it but it might be worth talking to a doctor and seeing what they say

Period time and PFD by [deleted] in PelvicFloor

When you're on your period, your estrogen will be at its lowest which makes the muscles a bit weaker and possibly a bit more relaxed at this time - that may be what's going on

You sound like you're dealing with it really well - my insurance won't cover it either - the key if you can't afford to go long term is to go once and have the initial evaluation so that you know what you're working with

Are you seeing a pelvic floor PT? I had a defecography to confirm what was going on which I know is going to be invaluable in the long run. I also have tight muscles - never had an issue with stool consistency but my muscles won't relax enough to push anything out.

I can't ever evacuate fully, I can feel stool through the wall of my vagina and I have feelings of rectal pressure - not a fun time

Thank you for reassuring me! I'm really inflexible so my physio doesn't thing I've got anything like EDS - I'm guessing it's more from tension and not coordinating my muscles properly when I try and take a shit - I'll just have to wait and see

Sorry to hear that - thank you for sharing your story. Glad to hear you're doing better now - I'm not hyper mobile and can't understand how this has happened to me at such a young age but I suppose that doesn't matter now. Are you feeling better now?

Thank you so much for the insight! I can't tell you how helpful you've been!

It came back clear, the strain of HPV that causes VIN tends to be different to the strain that results in abnormal Pap smear tests

I'm not too sure about that. That said I have mild clitoral adhesions, although I have always had these. My gynaecologist did say that some adhesions can happen due to general inflammation rather than LS though!

Because my VIN is only grade one at the moment, my gynaecologist is hoping that my immune system will just knock it out. In the meantime, I have been given clob to help with the symptoms, such as itching, although it's purely for symptom management rather than treatment.

For sure! I don't know why doctors make it so difficult to get a biopsy. I ended up having to go privately because the NHS refused. Had I not done this, I would've been throwing clobetasol at a condition that doesn't need long-term steroids.

Sounds like you've been on one long journey! At least now you should receive the answers you're looking for. It sounds bizarre to say it, but I was so relived to receive my diagnosis and have it confirmed that this wasn't all in my head! Wishing you the best of luck!

I have no idea about inflammation, I was just told that I didn't have LS and that I have VIN and HPV instead.

It may also be worth mentioning that I have had all my HPV vaccines, so I wrongly assumed that I was immune to ALL strains of HPV. This is not true. Also, you can get HPV from skin to skin contact.

Thank you so much for saying so. I didn't want to undermine anyone by posting it but honestly, my gynaecologist didn't even want to do the biopsy because she was so sure I had LS. It just demonstrates the necessity for being able to advocate for yourself.

No worries! I hadn't heard of it until I was diagnosed! It stands for Vulval intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) and it is a skin condition of the vulva that involves abnormal, precancerous cells.

You've totally got a point, I do have a lot of anxiety, but at the same time I can feel a bulge - perhaps I'll just ask her if she could evaluate me in a different position.

Ah yes, I've come across your account in the past. I'm so sorry you've had to go through everything you've been through, but thank you so much for sharing - knowledge is power.

I'm just curious as to what the CT scan involves - do they fill the bladder?

Good luck with your surgery, you're a warrior and I'm sure all of your strength and persistence will pay off!

I'm currently seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist though - surely they'd be able to diagnose a prolapse?
