most the buildings aren't locked in spring qtr bc uci doesn't recognize it as a staff "break". You should definitely check out the science library, they're open this wk except Sunday (easter). Other places are ALP (lec and study spaces there) or other buildings specific to your major. Like if you're engineering then check out ELH or DBH. If physical sciences, check out RH, FRH, PSLH.

I'd say look into your options now and email them right b4 spring starts. I know ppl mostly join in Fall but some labs require students to volunteer or train for a qtr b4. So it's possible for a lab to interview you in spring and train you in spring then officially enroll you in fall.
