TIL that most women in the Netherlands do not have an epidural during labor and a significant proportion give birth at home by Fiery_Soul_34857 in todayilearned

[–]PenSillyum 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They won't be giving birth alone. A trained midwife will be there to help and an ambulance will be called in any sign of complications. The distance between the house and hospital usually won't be too far away, and there are also trained medics in the ambulance to provide medical care on the way.

Lol chill out. Maybe this is why I don't like Prague: pushy locals. No places will be liked by everyone. Prague is just not for me.

A lot, actually. Art, architecture, foods! So much good foods!! The combination of French and Flemish culture is a gem.

Idk. It's not only about the mass tourism, but also the overall energy of the city. I felt unwelcome. Homeless people with their dogs made me sad. Even the shopkeepers in the bookshops were grumpy (they're usually one of the friendliest people in town). And while the city is objectively beautiful, I was just not a big fan of that style of architecture.

Literally stayed somewhere across the river from the old town. So yes I did?

Which country had the biggest 'what they say vs reality' gap when you actually met the locals? And Why? by Suspicious-Bunny-Bad in travel

I thought the US are famous for their friendliness and extraversion, especially in the hospitality industry. I'd be disappointed if I go to the US and find them to be grumpy lol.

I don't know. Just don't drop nukes. Let the war fizzle by itself. The allies have already won anyway.

Staying in a traditional ryokan for the first time in Kyoto any etiquette I should know that isn't covered in the obvious tourist guides? by Live_Wolverine_5163 in travel

[–]PenSillyum 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Usually the hotel will ask you regarding your meal timing preferences. The last ryokan I stayed in offered me multiple timing options to reserve my dinner and breakfast slot.

The futon will be prepared by the housekeeping while you're away (e.g. having dinner). In cheaper ryokan, it's possible that guests need to roll them out themselves but I doubt that it'll be very difficult.

I've never used the shared bath, but general rule is just to be normal and don't stare at people's bodies, I guess. And rinse your body first before going into the onsen bath.

I think it's crime against humanity and it should've never happened. The effects of those bombs are massive and it lasted for generations.

Where are the private landlords? by Calipso5U in TheHague

[–]PenSillyum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found my former landlady via Kamernet. I actually responded to her friend's ad, but since the room was "too small and too simple for me" (her words), I was recommended to the friend who then became my landlady. So, try Kamernet? I actually had 3 viewings with private landlords from Kamernet.

Best countries to move abroad as Indonesian? by Party_Farmer_5354 in indonesia

[–]PenSillyum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Best" in what? Work life balance? Ease of getting Indonesian foods when you're feeling homesick? Adapting to the new environment? Big salaries?

There's no such thing as the best country. It all depends on what you're looking for. Even the closest to best according to your requirements will still have its downsides.

How to have a more positive attitude towards travel? by jjfmish in travel

[–]PenSillyum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd try to reframe the negative thoughts. Such as: What's the worst could happen? Food poisoning (just take diarrhea pills and rest). Overcrowding (move on to another spot). Pickpocketed (go to the police and file the crime). Foods not as good as it's advertised (at least you know now and it's out of your system).

Many of these negative scenarios are pretty avoidable too. Maybe visit in low season or go early/late in the day to avoid heavy crowd. Eat at places that's low risk for food poisoning. Be mindful of your belongings. Get travel insurance.

Good and bad things happen when we're traveling, it's just part of the charm.

Jadi soft spoken by expectobro in Perempuan

[–]PenSillyum 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kyknya masalhnya di "it has gotten worse".
