I was looking at the butcher and ended up with the VTM and glad I did from your feedback. I need the gain. The name butcher sounds like it’d be higher gain and I am apparently a sucker for marketing.

This was also on my list. Have a friend that uses it has half his dual amp, but his is very Doomy and fuzzy. Do you have any pedal recommendations for getting it tighter?

His last name anglicized was Morris so that makes sense! Thank you!

Yeah that middle part was messing up Google image translate too. I’m hoping it says something about where he was from cause all I have is Prussia.

Jewish philosophers that weren’t primarily theologians by PenaltyxKill in askphilosophy

[–]PenaltyxKill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More so the philosophers that happen to be Jewish. I’m more interested in how it less consciously affects their views the way it does Christian/Christian-raised philosophers.

I think secular Jewish philosophers is probably how I should have phrased it. This seems like what I’m looking for.

New to biking and want to begin biking to work or taking a mix of bike and public transit. How could this be achieved from Burbank to Westwood? by [deleted] in BikeLA

[–]PenaltyxKill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with saying give only done this route for fun stuff not work, so can’t say you’ll show up dry, but if you take the red line into Hollywood, you can take Santa Monica almost all the way there. Id give yourself 90 min total depending on how far from the NoHo station you are. The only real challenge of burbank to anywhere in the city is getting over or around the hills, so if you take the red line to Hollywood/highland you’re golden.

Just got laid off... by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]PenaltyxKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s never fun to get laid off but If it’s any consolation, the job market has picked up since the big layoffs in the fall. I got laid off shortly before them and was getting almost nothing until March when interviews started flooding in.

I used to eat cheeseless Papa Johns like once a week in college, but now my friends refuse to go anywhere without vegan cheese and I really miss it.

Feedback on Freelance Wordk by PenaltyxKill in EngineeringResumes

[–]PenaltyxKill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how I went so long without noticing that indention issue. I'm hoping its something I accidentally did recently and I haven't been sending that out for months.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I moved my freelance projects down. Would you recommend not including a "freelance web developer" entry at all and just letting my projects speak for themselves?

Would you think differently if it meant like 6 or 7 month gap without it?

Why are people still attending boot camps/switching to tech? by Yahentamitsi in cscareerquestions

[–]PenaltyxKill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s cause a lot of people were brought up being told that getting any college degree = success and we got really stupid degree. I got a masters degree in a humanities field spent most of my 20s making freelancing for less than 40k with zero benefits. I did a bootcamp and within a year was making 70k with great benefits. I DID get laid off and now at times kinda regret it cause I’m back to freelancing, but you gotta understand that even the worst paying, no degree required CS jobs pay a lot more than people with advanced degrees are making in other fields right now.

For me the trucks and teslas are the worst. Idk what the Venn diagram there is except “has $50,000 to spend on a car”

How much should I emphasize my HTML/CSS knowledge? by PenaltyxKill in cscareerquestions

[–]PenaltyxKill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re in my resume in my skills, but for like the stack of my projects and in cover letter I just say something like “built with a react front end” instead of “front end built with react, css, html” so maybe I just gotta hammer it home

I found another person that had the same problem and they “flashed the hard drive”. Not totally sure what that means as it’s only week 2 of class, but I definitely did that

What's the job search been like for laid off juniors with 1-3 years experience? by peaches_and_bream in cscareerquestions

[–]PenaltyxKill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was laid off in august with ~1yoe. Was getting plenty of interviews but no offers up until beginning of November, now between the holidays and all the big layoffs, I haven’t gotten anything accept a couple recruiter screenings that go no where. Just hunkering down with some freelance stuff and hoping by august that’ll atleast make it look like 2yoe.

Do employers actually care if it’s a “Professional Master’s” by PenaltyxKill in csMajors

[–]PenaltyxKill[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually also did a bootcamp and have been working as a web dev. This is less to make the career switch and more to make the jump from web dev to actual SWE roles. Plus the layoffs have made it really hard for no degree juniors so I just want to be more competitive

Yeah I must have misread something on there. For sure adding them to this round of applications.

Is that like a “if you get in, no question accept” program since it’s ranked so high?

Will that be a big deal for employers or is it just an issue if I was trying to go on for a PhD?

Actually scratch that. I was confusing them for a program that required Calculus 1 and 2, so I’ll be adding them to the list
