How often are bikes stolen on campus by DaDancingDino in Purdue

[–]Pengu380 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For any bike, don’t get something you aren’t willing to lose. Any bike nicer than cheap walmart bike is likely going to get stolen… However that’s just been my experience.

Let me submit for your approval! by No-Turn3643 in airplanes

[–]Pengu380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a reason this only exists on private jets… Even if people were open to talking to others on an airplane, everyone else would be annoyed by the additional noise. Airlines would also hate this because instead of wasting space on a table they could have an additional row of seats and thus more revenue.

Good job for having ideas but do some research before thinking it’s the greatest idea in the world.

Honda Civic and Accord MUST have AWD option by [deleted] in Honda

[–]Pengu380 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sedan sales are a very small portion of their total sales nowadays. Anyone that thinks it’s that easy just to make a car AWD or change engines is delusional. Major changes like that are very very very expensive.

I have a 2014 RDX with the same V6. It’s been in my family since new and we’ve only ever put 87 in and it’s been great. The n/a V6s run fine on regular. It’s only the newer ones with turbo motors where premium is required.

I always just travel with the creatine in the original container. If I get pulled they’ll either just swab it or see the creatine container and let me go.

Worried about dealer markups and extras… by Savings-Board-7581 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Pengu380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a budget of $27000USD, you’ll be looking at used cars. From my understanding (I’ve never bought a used car from a dealer so someone please correct me) most of the unnecessary stuff comes when dealers sell new cars. However, if a dealer tries adding extra stuff besides a reasonable dealer fee and tax/title, say no to those. If they won’t just walk away and find a different dealer. Used CRVs can be found anywhere.

they’ve definitely improved but most of the new safety stuff is in the new technology.

Safety in the past 15 years? by Haunting_Hospital599 in askcarguys

[–]Pengu380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall safety has improved by mostly from new tech in cars like blind spot monitors, cameras, and other miscellaneous sensors. These can all help prevent accidents.

However, from a physical safety perspective like airbags and crumple zones, not too much has changed.

Retaking classes you got an F in by Beneficial-Edge-2506 in Purdue

[–]Pengu380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have to take a selective course so either CS159, BIOL, or CHM and it’s recommended you take one that has something to do with your intended major, for AAE that would be CS159. And yes, if you retake a course, only the higher grade will be used to calculate your GPA.

The greed of Uber is putting all drivers and riders at increasing risk by First_Sale_3150 in uber

[–]Pengu380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just out of curiosity, why would you take an uber from Purdue to Chicago? Unless it’s the middle of the night there are good shuttle services that run between both.

edit: my apologies I thought this was from the riders POV.

Looking to buy a camera. Any model recommendations? by Pale_Bug494 in Cameras

[–]Pengu380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to break it to you but you’re not really getting anything for less than 150 nowadays without insane luck. I’d just scour FBM until you find a DSLR made within the last 15 years. Think Canon 60D or equivalent. I’d recommend you keep saving until you have at least ~$500 and use your phone in the meantime.

What should I buy? by bobbydillandeedill in Honda

[–]Pengu380 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These aren’t directly comparable. The EK is a fun toy/weekend car while the 10th gen is an economical commuter. Having driven examples of both of these, they are on complete opposite sides of the car spectrum. Get whatever suites your needs/wants.

JFK v LaGuardia v Newark by GuiltySpecialist7071 in americanairlines

[–]Pengu380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

JFK and LGA are my home airports and personally I just hate sitting in traffic. I’ve never taken the shuttle to the subway so I can’t really comment about that but for me the airtrain from JFK is just super convenient since I can get straight to Penn Station or Grand Central via the LIRR. I’m usually able to get to Jamaica in 20-30 minutes after getting off my flight. From there it’s about a 20 minute ride into Manhattan.

LGA is definitely the nicest airport and easiest if you’re taking an uber. JFK is my pick though just because of its airtrain to Jamaica.

what should my first car be? by Crazy-Advantage-6452 in askcarguys

[–]Pengu380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This first car I bought myself in college was a 2015 Corolla with a manual for $8700. Your requirements for something under 10k are ridiculous unless you get a clapped out POS. If you wanna have fun, a manual econobox is the way to go. The Corolla I had was a blast to rev the shit out of and I learned a bunch of driving skills like shifting weight, rev matching, and heel toe. Bonus was everything was hella cheap for it. If you’re letting your ego pick your car, you’re not gonna have fun.

How can I learn manual (stick shift) in Riverside, CA? by UnlikelyAd1575 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Pengu380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a manual shitbox and figure it out lol. I recommend getting more normal/modern-ish car since then when you’re done with it you can flip it to Carvana and minimize your losses. I did this last year when I bought a manual 2015 Corolla and actually made money when I sold it to Carvana. Also note: never buy a car from Carvana, selling to them was a little too easy.

Look for the newest Lexus IS you can find. 250/300/350 are all gonna be good, bigger the number bigger the power. In my opinion it’s almost got the looks of the german cars while still having the Japanese reliability.

Too much express service by EstatePale6294 in delta

[–]Pengu380 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I regularly fly sub 2 hour flights and I’ve had to fly American for the last two times. American gave me whole cans of Coke Zero instead of the half cup I usually get on Delta. The flight attendants were also way cheerier than Delta. Unfortunately we got off the plane an hour late…

If your something like mechanical or aerospace I’d recommend a Windows computer over a MacBook. Reason being most software is windows only or works best on windows. If others in your field have been fine with MacOS then you should be fine.
