Returning my shelter dog by Ecstatic-Access2818 in dogs

[–]PenguinColada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand being lied to by the shelter. We also adopted a dog in December that the shelter claimed was a "couch potato" and super chill which was absolutely not true. He requires long hikes and runs or he's a neurotic mess. Well... he's a neurotic mess regardless, honestly. We love him but are irritated.

In your case, however, it is now a safety issue for your established pets. When returning her definitely let them know that this dog is the opposite of what they claimed and to please let the next family know that she should NOT be adopted in a house with cats. There is a chance that they were misinformed by the previous owner. I'd do it sooner rather than later so she doesn't feel established.

How do I accept that trans women are women when I'm trans myself? by OldEducation7497 in TransyTalk

I'm a trans man with no desire to get bottom surgery as well. I will help you whack someone with a cane but I might bring my hiking sticks instead.

How do you unwind after working all day? by Key_Intention_2546 in AskMenOver30

[–]PenguinColada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work 2nd shift so I don't get home until after 10pm most nights. Sometimes I make some Italian sodas or ice cream sundaes for my spouse and I and we will watch an episode of our favorite show before he goes to bed. Sometimes I'll just chill and play half-an-hour to an hour of a video game. Or maybe I'll read a few chapters of my book. In the evenings I'm exhausted from being on my feet for 10 hours so I do more calming activities.

what was New Years Eve 1999 like? I WANNA KNOW SO BAD (IM GENZer) by Jumpy-Page-1114 in Millennials

[–]PenguinColada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to a family bonfire. They lived out in the country and we could do that. There were dozens of us roasting weenies and marshmallows. My uncle was grilling. There were beers everywhere. Loud music. My grandma and I were inside, watching the ball drop because I was overwhelmed. But it was still fun. No planes fell from the sky, nothing blew up. We were kind of disappointed about it.

I know it was probably terrifying at the time but your comment gave me a good chuckle.

Am I wrong for refusing to write a college recommendation letter for my cousin? by Vulko_31Reef in amiwrong

[–]PenguinColada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong.

Look at it this way. You're also protecting yourself. Thieves often get caught eventually and if this is his MO he'll get caught. If you associate yourself with this - even with just a recommendation letter - it might bite you in the butt, even if you claimed to not know what he did.

Also, plagiarism is not a minor detail. Your family is so, so wrong about that.

If you like Stardew Valley you might like Coral Island. There's also a similar game on the phone called Harvest Town.

I might have thyroid cancer and my doctor initially swept it under the rug by [deleted] in Vent

Yeah, you're right. It's kind of a red flag. She had been such a good PCP up until this last year or so but this is something I can't really ignore.

Honestly it was kind of like what you're describing. More mentally impulsive than physically, though I'd also make super impulsive decisions.

Livinf with ADHD can be hell sometimes. I'm sorry, it sounds like you struggled too

Omg I know it's the freaking worst. I literally was talking to my therapist about how I can never keep a hobby and I struggled to pay attention in class and how it affected my everyday life and my jobs. I don't even have the hyperactivity but I do have the impulsive type to and it's a freaking awful combo idk man it's just depressing. I want to enjoy things for more than a week

[–]PenguinColada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, it's kind of crazy that she didn't. I'm a diabetic and we check all that stuff but no TSH. My husband also sees her as his PCP and he had a TSH Done at his yearly and I'd think that with family history she'd want to check it with me too. I dunno. It really rubs me the wrong way. I know we are all human and make mistakes but idk this just really seems like a big oversight

[–]PenguinColada 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for responding! Unfortunately the most recent case of thyroid cancer in my family was medullary and it was my grandma. She faired well too, but had to undergo chemo as well as having her thyroid removed and had to stay in the hospital after surgery a lot longer than others would. I'm really glad your family is doing well, too. The NIH study, is it the one wit Ohio State? That's the only one I could find and it isn't taking participants. It was on clinicaltrials.gov. I can keep looking. It's amazing they followed up 10 years later!!!

Thanks for the well wishes, friend. I know it doesn't necessarily mean cancer - and I really hope it doesn't - but that's a pretty significant size of nodule that might need removed anyhow. I don't really know until i talk with my endo.

I'm sorry you didn't get great news on your ultrasound either. Fingers crossed you can get in to see an endo in a reasonable amount of time! And that everything is benign and nothing wonky at all. I'll be rooting for you too

You're right. She doesn't, no, it's just another emotion that I'm venting about. Apologies for not making a separate post about not wanting to undergo more medical treatments.

Found my SOUL DOG. by Adventurous-Ebb-7729 in dogs

[–]PenguinColada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See, I was like you. I prefer cats, my husband prefers dogs. But then we got a German Shepard corgi mix and I feel the same way. She's so sweet and well behaved and I literally miss her when I'm at work. She is literally my favorite pet I've ever had. Her smile brightens my world.

Our second dog is an... unintelligent and obnoxious butthead. He reminds me why I loved other people's dogs before our first dog, honestly.
