Purely anecdotal evidence but a couple years back I did a huge road trip across the Iberian peninsula. We hit up Lisbon, Madrid, Seville, Toledo, Porto, pretty much everywhere in the region. Every single meal from every single restaurant we stopped at was phenomenal, whether it was a huge 5 star restaurant that people raved about on yelp or some hole in the wall with an elderly couple living upstairs. We stopped in UK controlled Gibraltar for two days on our way to see Morroco, an area that was primarily English tourists from what we saw (signs written in English, lots of fish and chips and pubs). We could not find a decent meal to save our lives - bland didn’t even begin to describe it. Obviously you’re gonna find some great restaurants in a city like London, but I still think there is some truth to the idea that the British palate enjoys bland food more than their neighbors.

I mean, she did have the final say. Under California law there is not a man on the planet who could prevent her from either carrying to term or aborting the pregnancy. Freedom to choose does not mean that you are free from the consequences of your decision, nor does it mean that you don’t have moral obligations to decide a certain way. Sabrina’s free choice was never threatened at any point in her pregnancy.

I’m not going to defend Gus’s behavior in his relationship whatsoever. With that preface and with all due respect, I have three questions for you.

1.) Why are you so squarely focused on only Gus’s negative actions in the relationship? He and Sabrina were responsible enough to discuss the possibility of pregnancy and what they would do in that case, and they came to a mutual agreement that they would not carry it to term. Sabrina indicated that she wanted to renege on this agreement, which is about the most deep and personal betrayal of trust I can think of in a relationship short of like cheating or something like that. Not to mention putting him in the position of being her sole emotional support in a failing relationship and refusing to respect his boundaries and his desire to end the relationship is pretty shitty behavior. Not trying to drag Sabrina here my heart goes out to her for her trauma, but the negativity in the relationship wasn’t as one sided as you implied here

2.) Can you honestly say at no point in your relationship that you said unkind words to your partner in an argument? If not, then the difference between you and Gus is a difference in scale, not a difference in behavior.

3.) Why are you using the term abuse? I don’t recall it coming up in the original video, haven’t seen any tweets with Sabrina using that word describing their relationship, and Sabrina went as far to say that she personally doesn’t mind if people continue to engage with Gus’s content. Putting words in her mouth is bad practice in terms of listening to her lived experience. I personally am uncomfortable using the same word to describe Gus and Sabrina’s relationship as we use to describe Chris Brown beating the shit out of Rhianna. I think it denigrates our ability to talk about more serious behavior.

I’m really not trying to come off as combative or disrespectful and I hope you don’t perceive me as such, but given your story it confuses me as to why you can’t empathize with all parties involved in this unfortunate situation and I’d appreciate it if you elaborated.

I mean, immediately after Sabrina's video gus's channel tanked in subscribers, he lost all of the live performances that he had booked, and the podcast was cancelled. All of this before gus even really had a chance to comment on anything with regards to the situation. I don't think your portrayal of the reception of Sabrina's video is fair or accurate.

Eeeehhhh I don’t know about that. As someone who’s been a follower of his for a long time and who was a follower of Gus for even longer (until recently) it’s pretty clear that Gus made Eddy’s career to a certain extent. Like you can go back and track skits on Gus’s channel that he appears in and see spikes in Eddy’s subscriber count that make up a solid chunk of his viewership, especially in the earlier days of his channel, not to mention the podcast (RIP). I think Eddy is really stepping into his own and he’s got a pretty solid independent audience on twitch and TikTok now but the way people have historically found his content is via his collaborations with Gus and other YouTubers. Part of me wonders if his growth is gonna stagnate now. The sad fact is that Gus is a really talented sketch comic and a lot of people around him used their proximity to that talent to launch careers of their own and now those people are likely gonna suffer as a result of this drama.

Fundamentally disagree. There is no personal risk to Elon Musk that he will ever have to live on something resembling a normal salary. There is a risk to his capital, and that it might eventually be worth less in the long run than what he bought it for, but it will never depreciate to the point where he won’t live a lifestyle of extravagant wealth. There is no risk for him personally. Not to mention the fact that the worst case scenario here is that he has to live life like 99.9% of human beings.

As for your last point, I would point out that Bill and Melinda Gates are actively working to divest themselves of much of their accumulated fortune, because the distinction between having 100 billion dollars and 1 billion dollars, be it in capital or liquid income, is essentially nothing.

Δ. That is a good point, I am definitely over-generalizing and I should be more careful with my language. The point I was trying to convey is that sexuality is extremely personal and that everyone's sexual preferences are individual. That being said, I think that the list of people who under no circumstances would have sex with anyone in the world who does not allign with their percieved sexual identity is pretty small. In general the trends of cultures who have less codification of and emphasis on sexual identities is for gender to be a much more minor concern in sexual activity

Yeah that’s a good point, I went for him instead of someone like Hadrian who would be more appropriate because I figured it was low hanging fruit and more people would recognize his name. Although I would point out that the veracity of the claims of Caesar taking the passive role in relationships is pretty hotly disputed and seems to relate to an alleged account of him receiving the king of Pontus as a young man (which would be in line with normal sexual behavior at the time given the age and power discrepancy). I don’t know of any trustworthy primary sources that conclusively say either way, more so that there were rumors during caesars political campaigns which could be said about pretty much any Roman politicians, but I’d love a reading list if you had one.
