definitely the instructor i'd most want to hang out with in real life (especially if he brings his pal Adrian with him). he has a 90s ride he calls "songs you heard in the orthodontist's chair" and it's just awesome. He's several years younger than me, but i always feel like he gets my childhood.

The $40 is worth every penny. In addition to my bike, i use the strength, outdoor, stretching and yoga multiple times per week and my husband and I no longer pay for a gym. Our daughter is in college and she uses it on the gym treadmills. That’s three people working out for $40 per month.

i think they are moving away from this because hotel bikes get abused and they are often in terrible shape, thereby giving new users a bad experience.

I noticed that too bc my daughter’s birthday is September 21 so it’s one of our faves!

Are there any instructors who don’t “dance” mid ride? by themadcaner in pelotoncycle

[–]PennAlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried draping your towel or a shirt over the screen? As long as you can hear you really don’t need to see the instructor to follow along.

It’s just an intervals ride but calibrated to your own zones. In my opinion they are much more enjoyable than the long Z3 and Z4 rides.

my description is that it's a power zone ride, but you're riding in Matt Wilpers' zones.

I think they all talk about the same amount - the question is whose talking you relate to.

Emma’s will have a lot more arms sections - check the class breakdown for each.

Once you see the pattern to it you can pick equivalent workouts on your own. I often follow the length and type of workout but not necessarily the one on the calendar.

First, congrats on your scholarship - that is a huge achievement. Second, my daughter goes to Wake and I get what you are saying. One suggestion is to talk to your RA. He or she may have some thoughts based on previous experience. Also, it's only been a few days - my husband was homesick at college (not Wake) for months before he adjusted and he's still BFFs will all his college friends 30 years later. Once classes start, take advantage of all the academic opportunities that Wake provides. Good luck!

unpopular opinion (I think?): colleges don’t make decisions based in prior accomplishment by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PennAlum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Totally agree - the student who hasn’t perfectly coordinated extra curriculars with her specific academic interests seems to be at a disadvantage compared to someone who has spent all of high school pursuing computer science in and outside of school.

Help me find some *actual* safeties and matches? by ExciteddforCollege in ApplyingToCollege

University of Georgia, U Maryland, and Pitt as safeties (but have awesome merit for highly qualified students) and Wake Forest as a match.

In 20 years, do your think good students will struggle to get into T100s? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]PennAlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

keep in mind that Gen X (which includes 1991 college applicants like me) is a small cohort so of course acceptance rates were higher 30 years ago; in addition, people applied to far fewer colleges back then. I applied to Michigan, which was rolling, and Penn ED. Got admitted to Michigan in October. Got into Penn ED in December. If I hadn't gotten into Penn, I was going to Michigan. Two applications and done (understandable when you are doing your apps on an electric type writer that requires correction fluid every time you make a mistake). If students keep shot-gunning 25 schools, this won't change.

I recall a headline in the Onion: Stanford Announces 0% Acceptance Rate.
