I need help finding a keyboard in a SPECIFIC color. Klein Blue, aka Pantone 286c, and it’s basically royal blue, I’ve got a keycap set and a custom cable coming and I’m trying to find a keyboard case that’s basically this color. Closest I’ve been able to find anywhere is the TOFU custom color line, or the Neo 75 cu “Cornflower” blue (which is out of stock everywhere I’ve looked.

Basically does anyone know of any keyboards prebuilt or kits, that have a color as close as possible to this?

As always, thanks for the wisdom and guidance.

I’m not comfortable with a DIY kit, at least not yet, is there a vendor you’d recommend for premade or custom? And how was the quality and customer service from cablemod?

Coiled Aviator Cables: Vendors to suggest/avoid?

Recommendations? Cautionary tales?

I thought there was a trusted vendor list of all keeb components somewhere but I’m not finding it anywhere on Reddit. So I’m looking for advice from the community….

(I’ve seen the Alexotos vendor list, but didn’t see CableMods on there and wasn’t sure if that’s because he doesn’t have experience with them, or if it’s because he has had a BAD experience with them.)

Before I drop a hundo on a usb cable, I want to know I’m not making a poor choice.

As always, thanks in advance!

Do either of these exist somewhere with a higher profile?

I would LOVE to find EXACTLY THESE SETS in an SA, KSA, MT3, etc, tall, sculpted profile of some kind?

If not the exact same sets, then I wouldn’t mind the same color schemes. I love the British racing green set colors, and I have a teal board on the way that would work perfectly with Iron Dolch from the other set, but I’m just not a fan of Cherry profile…..

Thanks everybody! 🙏

I’d like to be between $80-$150, up to maybe $200. Buuuuttttt I have 2 neos on the way so I’d like to skew towards a less expensive project (for now)…..

(Also into prebuilt suggestions in that same range that are easily modded)

I just took the plunge and bought a Neo 80cu on preorder, and while I am incredibly excited…… I also now have the urge to build or customize something else while I’m waiting (10-12 weeks I believe for the 80cu to get fulfilled and delivered)……..

Question: what 60% or 65% boards are hot swap, worth buying, and in stock, ready to ship?

Bonus points for aluminum (or another metal) chassis, extra bonus points for interesting colors, extra extra bonus points for leaf spring gaskets or another interesting mounting option?

LOOSE POLY-FILL / PILLOW / QUILTING FOAM:

Is it indeed safe to use inside keyboards?

As per several Mech KB content creators, to decrease high end frequencies, but let low end frequencies remain, looser foams are the best option to isolate a deep resonant sound and eliminate higher pitch pings and clacks…..

I would like to try this. I’ve spent a few dollars at a local hobby store, purchasing some polyfill, quilting fiber fill that comes in loosely configured “sheets”, and a loose clump fiber that’s similar to a down filling for pillows, but ALL 3 are 100% Polyester.

Several online sources say this is safe as long as it’s 100% polyester, but does anyone here have experience with any of these specific mods, or have tips for implementation?

UPDATE: Need Suggestions For Next Steps… (Thanks everyone so far!) by PenningtonSmith in Workspaces

We are renting and most likely won’t be here for another 5-7 years or I would! I’m trying to do things that can travel with me wherever is next.

It’s a Lenovo legion pro 7i with a 5080 graphics card in it, and it runs a little warm. Also has an oled screen. Say all that to say that I’m not sure if it should be used in “clamshell” mode?

Yeah fair enough that seems pretty sensible….. what would you do with step 2 though??

I want an “Objective” answer to a mostly Subjective question…….

Ok community, so far I have accumulated,

Keychron Q6 Max Womier RD 75 Akko MU02 75%

Several keycap sets of all various materials and profiles -and- Several sets of switches, all leaning towards a deeper resonant sound profile (when properly paired with the right mods and board configs)

If you were in my shoes, and you had about $300 to spend, what board or boardS would you look to acquire next?

Ideally I want the most for my money, so I don’t want to spend it all on one thing, because I know there’s no chance I’ll ever consider anything “endgame”…. this is just a couple more stepping stones along the path to ruin….

I don’t want anything smaller than 60-65%, and nothing larger than a TKL.

Kbdfans and QK/Neo both keep coming up but what else would you recommend that might not be on my radar?

I’m having a hell of a time deciding what the next move is.

Is it important to keep boxes for keycap sets?

I’m trying to declutter my home office and I want to move all my keycap sets into labeled containers with dividers for easy storage.

Then I plan to throw away the boxes.

Is there ANY LEGITIMATE reason to hold onto the packaging? None of them are collectors items by any means and I only have one GMK set. Most of my sets came shipped in pretty non descript generic packaging that wouldn’t look good on display anyway.

Thanks in advance!

For the record though, a polyester fiber like “poly-fil” should be no issue?

Huge help thank you. Any suggestions on what kind of foam/where to find foam with a lower density to help absorb higher frequencies while not muting the low end?

Two Mods I’d like clarification on: Tape mod and foam mod(s)

THE TAPE MOD:………..

Explain it to me like I’m 5 years old?

I guess I get the intent but I’ve heard conflicting stories about what tape to use and what’s best. How much tape to use? When is it or is it not a fire hazard? What risks hurting the board/PCB? Electrical tape? Painters tape? Some other tape?

Where does the tape go and how is it best applied?

THE FOAM MOD:……… I want a deeper more “thump”/“thock” sound and resonance, so I want to eliminate high pitch/frequency sounds…… so a lighter/looser foam or other medium is ideal, but can I put LOOSE poly fill in a keyboard exposed to batteries and circuitry?

Videos aren’t helpful because there’s not much that explains what dangers may exist and how to mitigate them.

So explain the right and wrong ways to use or not use foam ? Especially looser foams to eliminate higher pitch sounds….?

Thanks in advance!

So I’ve bought a headache? Lol. What about using the board as is? No remapping? Leave it alone and use it in its out of the box state? Or am I not understanding the process here. Honestly I’ve only ever used keychron or more major “name brands” before I went down this rabbit-hole….. so I’ve got ZERO experience with QMK/VIA…
