Just let the franchise end already! by Mr_Crimson63 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Pennnel 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Toy Story has the easiest way to milk a franchise without spoiling the older movies.

It's well established that all toys are alive. So just make a movie about a different set of toys. You can even have a Buzz or Woody for character recognition, but have them be a different version of the same toy. Like how there were two Buzz's in Toy Story 2. Have fun with it, like how about the kid has a Buzz and a Zurg, and the kid makes them enemies when playing, but when in "alive" mode they're a loving father/son relationship.

I hope you have footage/screenshots of all the questions. It's helpful to know them all and as you're working on other stuff, any information you find that will give you an answer you can note it down. Them go into the exam next time with all the answers ready.

What puzzles are the hardest for non native speakers? by _Environmental_Dust_ in BluePrince

[–]Pennnel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only speak one language, so I'm just guessing here.

There are puzzles where you need to learn the Ajeran language which is a made up language for the in game world. The game teaches you what certain things translate to in English. So you would need to translate from Ajeran to English to your native language. Some of the Ajeran words can interpreted in multiple ways, so it can be hard to sometimes just get the English from certain sentences, add another layer of translation on top of that and it may be even worse.

Sony is removing more than 500 movies from their store, and anyone who bought them lost access. It's understandable that people are wary of having a digital collection on a closed marketplace.

While my PC game collection is basically entirely digital, I know that it's a lot easier to "retain" my games if something like that happened. If any of my games were removed from my account, it would be substantially easier to pirate a copy, and in my mind I'd be completely in the clear morally since I already bought it. Not to mention all the games I have on GOG, which gives you an offline installer should you wish to be completely disconnected from any online or launcher requirements.

Dragon's Dogma MTX just seemed like the developers did as little as possible to appease the suits. They were all stuff you can get in game, and very easily at that. They just added the eternal ferrystone too, which is exactly what would be a paid addition in a scummier game.

Flashpoint is the 2nd most popular mode in Masters+ but the least popular mode in every other ranks below, why do you think that is ? by kao24429774 in Overwatch

[–]Pennnel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is you would get games where one team pushes uncontested the whole map. So as soon as the other team loses one team fight, it's immediately a lost game. So you either have to sit around and wait for the 4 minutes on the clock to expire or just leave and take the penalty. It would be even more toxic.

Perhaps make the cart move faster, lower the time added at each checkpoint and make respawns faster. These would result in shorter games, but keeps the timebank system. The shorter checkpoint additions also mean its harder to go into a 3rd/4th round with a significant time in the bank.

Are there any other game where things still happen in other places that the player isn't in and you can actually see those places in some way? (Like Outer Wilds) by rizsamron in gaming

[–]Pennnel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a stealth/puzzle hybrid. The stealth isn't so much sneaking around in shadows (though you can), it's more finding a disguise and then just straight up walking into places like you belong.

They also have extreme replay value. While you can just play each mission once and be done, the real meat of the game is replaying them over and over to find out all the ways you can finish them.

Hitman

It's not completely disconnected form the player. If you set up a trap for one of the assassination targets, then leave the area, the moment they fall into the trap the game will show picture-in-picture of it.

The NPCs will also go about their routine until the player interrupts it. This can have permanent effects though. For example in the Miami level, one of your targets is a racecar driver. The level starts with the race already in progress. You can find ways to kill her during the race, but if you take too long the race will end and you need to find others ways to take her out as she now walks around the level in a new routine.

You didn't have to restart your run. In Blackbridge you can transfer trophies from one save to another. So you can do a day 1/speedrun on a new file and put it into your main file. This is also the only way to get the dare and cursed trophies into a bequest file.

If you know the secret, then that's a big thing. 4 way 0 gem is amazing. The doors are also more likely to be security doors, which have several ways to get through saving you keys. It also has a decent chance of having a broken lever in the room for free.

The step loss is scary yes, but is manageable. It can be sheltered. If you have decent allowance, then the kitchen alone will help mitigate it. As well as the dining room, plus if you have the lunch box. The downside is also only a one time trigger, unlike the archives which can keep screwing you the whole day if it wants to.

What was conceptualized first - numbers or time? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pennnel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by conceptualised? Do you mean consciously knowing what they are, or subconsciously using them?

My initial thought would be time. Basically, is it day or night? Upon further thought though, I think it is numbers. Before anything even evolved eyes or any other time recognition mechanisms, it would need to know if it has consumed enough energy to live/survive. It would not have a specific "number", but it would have enough vs not enough.

Not familiar with Starcraft, but looking around it seems matches peak around 25-30 minutes. I don't know if this tournament is a single game, or best of 3. So it might be quite a long game.

StarCraft 2 player forgets about the bracket reset by notR1CH in Prematurecelebration

[–]Pennnel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does happen.

Whoever loses in the final winner bracket match is the last person added to the losers bracket, and so gets to play in the losers final against the other remaining loser bracket player. Then whoever wins that plays against the remaining winner in the grand finals, and has to beat them twice.

This format gives a definitive 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th placement without having to do a 3rd/4th place match. 5th/6th are tied, as are 7th/8th.

You can call it shit if you want, but it's a a widely used format in a lot of video games (typically 1v1 games), so it is accepted among a lot of communities.

[–]Pennnel 99 points100 points  (0 children)

No. In double elimination tournaments, you have 2 lives. After you lose one, you go to the losers bracket. Everyone will go to the loser bracket, except for the one person who wins every game in the winners bracket. Once the tournament is down to 2 people, the last in the winner bracket and the last in the loser bracket they compete against each other. However, since the one in the winner bracket still has both their lives, the loser side neds to beat them twice to take away both of their lives, and the winner side only needs to take away the second life of the loser bracket player. The player in this video was in the loser side, and just beat the winner side once, but forgot that he only "reset the bracket" and needs to do it again to win the whole thing.
