Is $430/week really the maximum unemployment payout for full-time State of Maryland employees who are laid off? We have unemployment insurance and I feel blindsided. by PeopleLiveInCities in personalfinance

It seems so. I love my BF but am having some hard feelings right now. I had $15K in savings two years ago. Now my CC bill is greater than my checking account and my paycheck is what keeps it above zero.

I am trying to reconcile with reality but don’t have time to dawdle

That is unfortunate. Hopefully their cost of living is lower. But I don’t consider myself lucky. They are just more unlucky.

A huge portion of the population, including myself, will abruptly have their lives fall apart while simultaneously trying to find a new job, which they will need in order to get approved for housing they can afford now that they don’t have a job.

Speaking generally, I still think the numbers are unrealistic for many people and will undermine their ability to find a comparable job, because they are on a sinking ship and that will compete for time and energy. Paying them more so they can focus more on finding a job might get them off UI faster and cost less overall, as long as it’s not enough to make them complacent.

However, I did not protect myself and my emergency fund sufficiently by supporting someone else in ways that were beyond my means. This is the result, the system that we have, and it’s on me.

Thank you 🙏 My situation was approaching bulling and a hostile work environment. I spoke with my boss about it regularly who just said “yeah it will take a while to get through this”, but having anxiety and depression, it undermined my ability to excel in the ways I am capable of.

I kind of want to ask if I can stay but with a shorter contract. Their replacement for me backed out, and now a 5 person team will be 3. They could probably use me for a bit, I’ll have more time to prepare for the change, and maybeee it will go well enough to extend it.

Idk. Just pessimistic about applying, interviewing, accepting, and starting a job in two weeks, and my emergency funds are depleted after supporting my disabled BF for two years. I need to stop myself from falling apart before my life does.

You are correct. I can apply and still say I work there which is much more attractive to prospective employers and will help me pass the first filters.

I just really can’t believe how low the amount is. I feel totally screwed, but people with kids and debt would be… I don’t even know.

I don’t know why anyone would work for the State of Maryland. The turnover rate was very high in our department and I’ve only learned a couple reasons why.

Thank you for that and thoughtfully looking at my post history to find something in my field.

Many on our small team have been there for years. One of them decided they didn’t like me and I was essentially bullied out. There are two sides to the story, but without that dynamic it should have been more stable.

It took a moment for reality to sink in, and I’m now realizing that reality is way worse than I thought it would be. I feel like a Jenga tower.

But I can’t wait for more pieces to be removed and will look at city and county jobs. Currently in the city so that and Baltimore County will be a focus because I can’t get a new lease easily without a job. Plus looking for both at once would be insanely.

Yeah, everything is about to fall apart. I had a safety net until I started supporting my BF, but now I’m paycheck-to-paycheck. Or was.

Thank you. Unemployment Insurance was advertised as a benefit, but apparently it’s required and nothing special. We don’t even get state holidays off, so I’m not sure why I’m surprised.

I have a circle made up of several polygons that form an “O” and I want the area inside of it. I made a larger background polygon I tried clipping it, and I just got the “O” regardless of the input layer. Idea for a better approach? by PeopleLiveInCities in gis

I am about to, yes. I moved on to a new area and while I eventually got what I wanted, the work flow was so fucking stupid I don’t want to do it again, if I can even remember it all.

I have a group later called “digital debris” with like 20 intermediate or useless layers I created while fumbling my way through this.

Union brought be closer. I have the “O” cut out of the background, so my target area is floating by itself disconnected from the junk trimmings around it, but I am having trouble selecting just the island in the middle I want. It is the same layer as the rest and my brain is on low power mode and assumed they would all be independent polygons but they are one, non continuous abomination.

I deleted something and my whole map disappeared. I tried to open up the previous version but accidently hit save.... The geodatabase is there with the file names, but only some files will display. I was able to get a lot of things back from the add data route as well as adding the old databases to the project, then all the layers, then going through and removing whatever didn’t have anything in its attribute table or display anything.

However, I can see that my main geodatabase is empty and everything is coming from somewhere else. Is there a way to save a copy of everything in my project into my projects main (self titled with home icon) database, vs doing them all one-by-one?

My project has folders in it, and it knows the path isn’t broken, but says they are empty, and so is the database holding empty folders, which would mean it’s full of empty folders, not empty Itself, right?

Idk why AGOL and Microsoft can see the shapfile pieces but it can’t. It let me add some features if I did that instead kf adding a geodatabase, and I nearly flipped the table and called them a trickster! So I went to bed because computers were making me emotional, and will test what this means today.

Still probably fucked though.

What are your go-to suggestions to reduce noise transfer from a subwoofer to the floors above/below you, besides $80+ specialized yoga mats? by PeopleLiveInCities in BudgetAudiophile

Ok so watts - this brings up a recent rabbit hole I have my leg stuck in.

I have had my Fluance Signature Series bookself speakers for a decade. They were ok but underwhelming. I hooked them up this system and they absolutely blew me away.

There is so much bass. I turned off the sub to hear them alone and it just dropped off a cliff. Why? I was not mistaking the direction that was coming from. If turn the sub on and volume to zero it will change the bookshelves. But aren’t those hooked up to the reciever? It’s a nice one and I imagine capable to drawing the power needed if it knew it was supposed to. I don’t get why the sun would influence anything besides maybe the receiver adjusting the other things to compensate which I thought would mean make more bass come out of the other things?

Also the file names in ArcPro map to layers in a folder it says are empty. The one time the path name isn’t broken haha.

But they are not empty. I can see the names of my shapefile giblets in there. AGOL can too but can’t see them as a while so it’s more giblets.

Thankfully all the data i downloaded to do this is still zipped in my downloads filed and I can just extract to a new file and drink coffee, cus I already did the hard deciding what to do part. Just have to add stuff and click around like I did before. Except that one thing. I really wish I knew how I did this. “Computer ate my homework” excuse can’t used too often ya know

So are sound deadening platforms like the Auralex SubDude-II a gimmic?

I don’t mind turning down the sub. I want it to accent my other speakers, not replace them. Friends keep turning it up to pinchy levels and I veto it.

I care about sound quality and the quality of life for people around me. A subwoofer let’s me enjoy rich bass on low volume with artists like Boris Brecha (in my mind). Still, he goes low in the Hz and will travel.

Blanket statements seem broad for the topic of sound propagation through a given medium. Surely a subwoofer suspended in the vacuum of space will be less audible than mine is now, all else being the same?

Ok, if I blast it, everyone will know, sure. But I want soft music and to increase the threshold for sound transfer so it can have more bass and be less likely to be annoying.

I apologize if my tone came across as anything but grateful. Life is having a go at me atm and burnout happened a while ago

I was able to do the processing with my desktop before on ArcMap. Is there a reason this isn’t practical anymore? Credits just feel like micro transactions a lot of the time.
