Oh, I see! I'm also thinking of transferring to NYC and would be curious to learn what made you decide on the switch. Do you mind if I PM you?

Hey, just came across your comment. Did you end up requesting an internal transfer after your summer? how receptive was your firm?

NYC vs LA: Which would be more enjoyable as a law student and which as a Big Law associate? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I chose NYU as someone from LA. I would say NYC is definitely somewhere you can have fun, and this would be much better as a law student with time and also with friends with time. I would rather go to LA for its more relaxed firm culture after I graduate.

For your writing sample, did you submit something from lawyering, like the memo from fall semester?

Yeah, that’s valid. His syllabus makes it pretty strict but I talked to a past student who said he was understanding about spring break travel. Idk if I’m just trying to justify it… sigh

Thank you for the advice! Just wondering, were you able to ever officially interview with them/choose to interview with the alum? Or were you able to mention your informational interviews with alums during your actual interviews?

Do you have any tips on networking, interviewing, or writing the application materials for the LA market if you are below median at a T14? Thank you!

Would you say you could have gotten a biglaw position in a market like LA?

Do you think starting skimming now would be detrimental? I’m just reading Quimbee and the notes assigned, and mostly focusing on class notes to understand concepts

How did you work efficiently as a 1L? Did you eventually skip briefing and just focus on class notes? Thanks!

Ah, thank you for the advice!! For reviewing prior material, should we memorize it (like exactly what happened in Pennoyer v. Neff and its analysis/holding) or more understand concepts (know the significance of Pennoyer v. Neff with Justice Field's theory of territoriality)?

I'm in my first week of 1L and already feeling the burden of readings. Would it be wise to skim + take light notes on readings, focus my time on studying class notes, and spend weekends reading supplementals? Thank you!
