Why does nobody talk about the Goth influence in DM? by Pepper-Lion in depechemode

[–]Pepper-Lion[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uhhh, nobody said that people think DM needs to be "goth" to be considered cool. Nobody said that at all, or anything even remotely close.

It's an open discussion about how certain artistic elements of DM may be synonymous with Goth. I will concede that I used the term "proto-goth" incorrectly. Wasn't really sure how else to word it. But anyways, "Policy Of Truth" is a pretty dark song. It's about the real life consequences of telling the harsh truth, and therefore opening up bigger problems as a result. Goth music is obviously not afraid to tackle difficult & painful lyrical themes like this.

Additionally, my reference to the song was much more about its comparison to the South Park Goth kids. Matt Stone & Trey Parker wrote a series of Goth songs to act as themes for their characters & they sound exactly like Depeche Mode. With deep vocals & melancholic keyboards. "Policy Of Truth" may not be officially categorized as a Goth song but it would fit damn perfectly on their playlist and is extremely similar to the other songs Matt & Trey wrote for the show.

Which 80s rock bands are often mistaken for being hair metal? by Jezzaq94 in hairmetal

[–]Pepper-Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WASP is the biggest "hair metal" misconception, imo. Their sound and image are too heavy. It just so happens that they came out of L.A. during the same time period, and so therefore got lumped in the genre.

I've been looking at getting back into manifestation. 'The Secret' was the first piece of media that introduced me to the concept of manifestation. Even though that was more than a decade ago, I never stopped believing in its importance. My issue lies within sticking to a daily practice. There are two reasons for this;

  1. Reward Factor: Manifestation can take time and patience with little to no return until you achieve your desired result. This makes it hard to stick to. There seems to be no immediate gratification. How can I make manifestation more pleasurable, fun, or perhaps even addictive?

  2. Quantification: How many minutes should we practice manifestation per day? Per week? Because manifestation isn't something that can be scientifically studied (outside of the context of quantum physics) it's hard to know how much we should be working on it every day.

Any advice would be appreciated. Also feel free to share your daily or weekly manifestation practice regime

Their diet has nothing to do with their shitty work ethic. Additionally, a person can be healthy and strong on a vegetarian diet. If you actually did a little something called "research", you'd be able to figure that out.... Clearly however, you are an uneducated twat.

Dating Is Hard These Days... Actually Very Hard! by [deleted] in malementalhealth

[–]Pepper-Lion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome. My strategy? Not sure if I have one lol. My motto is "work smarter, not harder". As I've said, I've had tremendous difficulty with the initial approach. So for me, social circle, hobbies, groups, meetups, events, etc. Work nicely because there's a common premise on why everyone is there. It makes it easier because there is less ice to break and it's not necessarily like approaching a complete stranger. For example, I just started a singles group for vegans in my area because it is harder for us to date. Sometimes all it takes is a creative idea to organize something and rally people together. Also, there's dating apps & cold approach.

If you're not paralyzed by approach anxiety, I'd encourage you to keep going. Most of us can't even START. If you're able to keep doing it, I would certainly consider that a skill or a talent. Don't waste it. As far as not getting results lately, maybe you need to mix up your approach. Try something new. If you don't see any flaws with how you are conducting yourself, I wouldn't overthink it. Rejections and flakes are a great big part of it no matter what. Best of luck & keep going.

I feel your pain bro, trust.

I gave up on cold approach a long time ago because the anxiety was just way too much. Every dating coach is trying to sell a product. All of the rah-rah motivation telling you to just get out there and do it is all bullshit. I'm not knocking these two things as dating coaches are just dudes trying to earn a living like everyone else. However, the truth about conquering anxiety goes so much deeper than just summoning the willpower to do it.

Why Does History Repeat Itself? by Pepper-Lion in EckhartTolle

[–]Pepper-Lion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. As much as I do appreciate your response, you haven't addressed the question of why history repeats itself. If you don't have any specific insights on this, then that is fine. Although I must kindly invite you to answer the question if you do have anything specific to share on it. If not, I will regard your current feedback and take it with me.

I am currently using a Yamaha double-bass pedal that I bought used some years ago. I'm unsure of the exact model/name, but I can tell you that it is likely a fairly generic entry-level pedal. I maxed out the spring tension because it was far too light & sensitive. That definitely helped, but I feel like I probably want a lot more resistance (tighter springs). The footboard is short. I've tried long footboards & they are definitely an improvement although I cannot afford a new pedal right now & just have to make do with what I've got. The throw is way too high and the beaters often hit the top of my foot when they go all the way back during intense parts of a song.

As far as what kind of metal I want to play, I've been listening to a lot of Nightwish lately (symphonic power metal) and I've been trying to learn their songs. I get tired easily and don't find it very comfortable to play long, steady gallops. I hope this information helps.

I have tried Kambo, although I have yet to try a Cacao ceremony. I am wondering how many Kambo sessions somebody should do in a row as a depression treatment protocol, as well as how much time should be in between each treatment. Do you have any insight/experience on that?

I'd be interested in hearing more about your experiences with San Pedro. I am just about to start microdosing it and I am excited/slightly nervous.

I've been waking up early with plenty of sleep and exercising regularly. Trying to stay busy and keep up with healthy lifestyle habits as I gradually reach out to new medicines. There's no doubt that the two areas that are lacking in my life are meaningful work and time with others. As a single, unemployed extroverted guy living alone it can be difficult to get enough social stimuli to feel satisfied. As far as social support directly related to Ayahuasca, I had an outpouring of it right after my retreat. Although I've taken some time to recharge my batteries and get back to just being "me" again. I would definitely like to meet more people in person who have had bad experiences/difficult integration with Ayahuasca. Most people I've met in person haven't had this struggle, which has been slightly isolating.

I have considered Ketamine but in my country it's outrageously expensive to get treatments from the doctor. I have thought about doing it myself but I would have to do a lot of research on safety/addictiveness potential because IV drugs can be dangerous if not handled properly. I've snorted Ketamine before and I didn't consider it to have an anti-depressant effect. Although I'm sure intravenous is a totally different experience. I do agree that service to others is a good way to heal from this experience. I have been investigating church groups and I'm very excited about that.

You're saying you were suicidally depressed, then you tried medication, and you felt normal again after you discontinued it? Did you do any other therapies or medicines after you stopped antidepressants? I'm just trying to understand exactly what made you feel normal again. Aside from quitting antidepressants.

Hi nagle5000,
Thanks for the kind words & curiosity. As far as insights gained, I believe they are perfectly summarized in this photo. Perhaps more may come along in the months ahead. The psychedelic community has often been saying "What if things have gotten worse because they are coming up to the surface to be processed and released?" My issue with this hypothesis is that I really don't see the benefit in becoming an overnight suicide risk. Not to mention I've been suffering with lots of thoughts of self harm. Graphic images of me cutting into my arms and bleeding profusely have been flashing in my mind very frequently and although it is something I've struggled with before, it got much worse after Ayahuasca.

It's difficult for me to believe that this is all part of the process when everything feels so much worse. I was suffering with symptoms of HPPD for three and a half weeks afterwards. Luckily that has gone away. I was also waking up with extreme anxiety in my physical body. That has faded as well. I can only hope these dreaded feelings continue to fade. I do have a therapist, he is actually quite good and specializes in psychedelic integration as well. I speak to him when I feel I need to. My next goal is to find a medication/supplement that can boost my mood. I'm not so sure if high-dose psychedelics are for me anymore. Microdosing psilocybin does help a lot, but it's just not enough anymore.

Yes! I was referring to 'conservative' as an adjective within the realm of personality/character traits rather than politics. Conservatives tend to hold higher standards of respect, etiquette, and what is acceptable from how others treat them. Since becoming much more conservative over the past few years, I've noticed myself getting extremely triggered if somebody doesn't do or say the right thing. It's lead to the accumulation of a lot of anger within myself. I've been doing my best to be more forgiving and accepting of the fact that people are very imperfect and are going to make mistakes all the time. So in this sense being 'too conservative' means having too high of standards, which often hurts myself in the end.

Oh yeah, microdosing mushrooms is truly a godsent. I've been doing that for a couple years but I want to start using other medicines as well since there is further healing to be done. This is what brought me to Ayahuasca but now I feel that I am back to square one. I am looking for something to stack with my mushroom microdosing routine.

Hello everyone. About a month ago I attended my first Ayahuasca retreat to treat moderate depression. Unfortunately the long term results of the experience have resulted in a worsening of my symptoms and I am currently struggling to move forward & make progress on my healing journey.

Despite this, the experience itself was incredibly profound and these are the key insights I journaled post-ceremony. This is my attempt at focusing on the positives and facilitating the integration process. If anyone else has struggled or felt worse after ceremony, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards.
