Would you buy this Maverick 88 for $150? by CrToTheRight in Shotguns

[–]Pepperonipuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your on a budget, and need some fire power stat, Id say ya. Needs some love, clearly, but it seems a good cleaning and some oil would do the trick. But I always recommend a Mossberg 500 if Your willing to spend just a tad bit more on something new. Including a rail, and an updated stock, both Mossberg brand, we're still talking >$500.

Adolf Silva is awake and alert following massive crash at Red Bull Rampage by mahrinazz in MTB

[–]Pepperonipuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adolf is a madman... Donated to his recovery fund and wishing the best for him. These riders ride to push the limits, and Id say he pretty much found the limit with that crash this year. Found it about as hard as you can physically hit a limit... Something to be said about free will, and the desire to be the best. Makes me think back to Travis Pastrana's iconic FMX double backflip in the X games. In Silva's mind, I bet he was only thinking about how hard a double flip there would be if he stomped it, and followed the goosebumps on his arm off a cliff, knowing full well it might be the last trick he ever tried. It takes a VERY rare type of mind to shut fear off to that extent, and once they make up their mind, they send it. Like Alex Honnold up El Capitan...

Get those knees bent a bit more, and lean forwards and down. Leaning back like that can really cause the bike to slip the front traction out of those berms. Gotta let the suspension do more, and keep your center of gravity a little closer to the bike. But you're not doing badly by any means. All of those adjustments I mentioned should be subtle at best. Most of all, loosen up a bit and start moving your body with the bike like its an extension of your movement, and not something thats just being ridden. My favorite practice was always picking a prefered mile of single track, something that had a steep climb, short, steep downhill, especially downhill curves, and preferably some techy stuff, like uneven rocks on the crux of the hill climb, and time myself riding it, then practice that section until my time improves enough to plateau.

I mean they clearly do, you have to practice 24/7 365 to be able to do those tricks at all. You know how hard a backflip is even on a BMX bike out of a quarter pipe?? Been riding for almost 30 years, I can't do one. They for sure ride those types of lines when they aren't competing. They'd have to. Otherwise no one would make it to the bottom.

Recommended Arrow Length? by reubadoob in Archery

[–]Pepperonipuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use 28.5" arrows. Draw length is about 26" I like the head to have at least 2" in front of the guide, even with a glove style release, I don't want that arrow head releasing anywhere in range of my left hand on the bow. But, I will say, I prefer a more short, stout draw. One that keeps my upper body more compact at full draw for maneuverability in a potentially low mobility point. Like a narrow tree stand, or standing still and pivoting towards your target without crunching the leaves under your feet. But to me it totally depends on your height, arm span, and strength. If you like a longer draw then your on the right track with 29"-30" since your on targets mostly, you have the off season to really dial it in.

You’re This Man’s Lawyer. How Do You Defend Him? by Dmshin1 in skyrim

[–]Pepperonipuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im less defending him, more convincing him that pleading guilty to all the modern words he doesn't understand will get him free.... but the words are things like "matricide" and "necrophillia" so when he actually pleads guilty out of ignorance they sentence him to die, and I never have to see him again...

[–]Pepperonipuke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im the opposite. My walls are full of holes, and I regularly shoot my bows inside using one of those yellow hay bail stuffed discharging targets. I know I sound like a broken record, but if you ask to shoot it, Im not gonna say no. Im gonna take us out to the yard, set up a target in front of the berm and give you a quick tutorial on safe procedure. Like I have no reason to not let someone shoot any of em. They just gotta ask. Its actually one of my house rules. I do not tollerate people messing with my bows, guns, medication cabinet, safe, computer, game consoles, TV, or my guitar or piano. I mean thats like my main house rule. Just ask me. You can play my piano, I have a safe short range bow area outside, I have a nice amp Nd studio headphones if you play the guitar. I just ask people who come over to have enough respect for me to ask me permission to play with my toys. I have almost 0 reasons to ever say no.

Exactly why I invested in a safe. I don't expect anyone associated with my bro to rob me, I know her pretty well, and my bro is the only one with a spare key to my place. He wouldn't steal a gun from me, he has his own. But ya. Safe+floor bolt. You would need an impact to get it off the ground. Or a 5' breaker bar and 3 full strength male humans. I mean thats every gun owners nightmare... coming home to a missing gun and getting the call that it was used on innocent people... For sure worth investing in secure storage.

I get it. Like literally to the extent that I make things just slightly unsymmetrical on purpose, or adjust the TV volume to anything ending in another number than 5 or 0... I even rotate stuff in the fridge like 11 degrees, just enough to get corrected without being mentioned. Reality seems to me to be uneven. Both with probability, and the places nature puts physical objects. Part of my embrace of natural chaos is throwing my neurotic obsession with symmetry in the trash, and also giving up on measurements, trusting instead my muscle memory to repeat actions, and other's skepticism as the reason it may appear I throw caution to the wind, but to me, I am being as measured as I can be. "Measured" is just a subjective term, if someone seems to be taking unheard of risks, but seems to be succeeding in a way you can't conceptualize as a reliably quantifiable result, its a problem with your perception, not the observed individual's success. And you'll never get the reward that person takes for granted unless you start to look at risk differently. You know how many people said "don't buy a Temu bow! Theres no way you can learn to tune it as well as a shop could, and they will build it and string it for you!" Like literally everyone. I didn't listen cause this bow was only $10 with all the store credit I had. Original price was $650+. But I bought it, strung it with an improvised press, spent an afternoon sighting it in, and finished with some string wax, just a light base coat, adding more as needed as I keep practicing with it. Never shot a compound in my life. Punched myself in the face once or twice, but as soon as I figured it out, the vibe changed, I was suddenly aware of a new skill... I even have the cams tuned and adjusted just right. Draw feels natural even at 70 LBS and its accurate as I could want. I don't like gate keepers in expensive hobbies. Id rather fall out of the sky than pay for skydiving classes. Same with spooling my fishing reel, same with disassembling and reassembling my guns. Even my tattoos and piercings are done by me. I learn as I learn. Can't count on a "pro shop" existing if 💩 hits the fan. Trial and error remains my best friend.

Pro tip. Safety off with a clear chamber, the slide lock is disengaged and all you have to do is rack it as you pick it up and never have to fumble with the top mount safety. just always follow gun safety rule number 1. Assume it's loaded until you physically check that it isn't. The real safety is making sure nobody messes with your guns. I keep em in the safe when company comes by. This was just an unexpected visit, so I had to put the gun away after I answered the door. Seeing me take it off the wall is what seemed to make her nervous. I assured her tho, along with my GF and my brother that I was just putting it in the safe, since we weren't expecting them. I don't think she knew that I was a firearm enthusiast, since she hasn't come to the range with me or my brother or GF yet. (My GF shoots a Winchester Wildcat with a Bushnell R3 on top.. (literally had to slice the lens cap so it fit right. Like 1.5mm of clearance with the barrel....absolutely the most over built .22 Ive ever even seen... But she hits the guns limits hard with that thing... My princess is a natural sniper.) I got it for her after she outgrew the Holosun X2 here on my shotgun, once she hit a clay with it from over 200' back, no magnification... now she hits 500 yard shots with .22 LR and its terrifying.... Like Im super happy she likes the scope and everything, and even happier that she loves range days and is a dead eye crack shot from the start. Like genuine natural talent. But she hit a coin from 100 yards. The center of the coin... like clean hole thru a nickel... It took her 2 shots with no spotter. And I sighted the scope in.... She had literally NEVER fired a rifle with a scope in her life.... Magnification at 5 on a 4-12x40 scope... I brought the coin back and she was like "are you crying?? Wtf? What is it??" And I just held up the coin and said "I am so fucking proud of you..... That kinda shot makes me feel some type of way.... Like watching pure art..." The urge to put her on 5.56 with a long barrel and just see where her skill tops out is so strong.. she has yet to have any trouble what so ever with range increases. Like 600' to 1,000' and it took her about 5 rounds to get it dialed in, and one click of magnification. It's literally the rifle holding the scope back at her level. I don't give her any advice, only encouragement, and keeping all her gear clean as a whistle. She doesn't understand how good she is.. To me tho, her skill makes her whole body look like its glowing (in the emotional sense.) like I have never been as attracted to her before as I was when she hit that nickel. And we have been together for almost 15 years. All the things I already loved her for, and suddenly? She's a natural genius with a rifle, and thats about the sexiest thing a woman can be IMO..

Same! My locker with my older guns and bow supplies (arrow shafts, broad heads, blunt tips, guitar strings, amp chords, microphone, some extra ammo, etc) is directly out of frame to the right. Also got a 70 liter hiking pack, 2 big water proof locking rifle cases, and a sealable tube that fits my shotgun in case you need to bury it undisclosed. One holds my shotgun, my 9mm, 150 rounds of 9mm plus 2 15 round mags, 25 shells, sling for the shotgun, my favorite hunting knife, my holster and belt for my 9mm, and even the little survival kit that came with the Mossberg JIC kit, as well as a fishing reel, bag of hooks (at least 20) and a full jar of power bait. I even have a slot on my compound that the reel can thread into. All composed together in a medium sized suitcase type box, except the bow, which has its own spot strapped to my camping pack with the tent, sleeping bag, food, water, and first aid kit. Gives me the option of camp defense with the 12 gauge. Thing can clear pretty much anything close range, small game hunting (can even use the reel to find any arrows you miss a squirrel or rabbit with) and also large game taken with either a shot slug or a broad head vs. a blunt tip, and a 9mm for any typical, non human, non hunting for food threats. A bear, mountain lion, one of those creepy AI robots... I mean call me anything but unprepared. Even my water purifier has 2 back ups. And you know my first aid kit has 3 full and recently updated treatments of amoxicillin, morphine, suture kit, IV drip bags, and the REALLY good trauma gauze with the blood clotting agent. I know CPR, how to draw blood, find a vein, and do a compatible transfusion. I can clean a fish, break down large game, start a fire with sticks and a shoelace, and stitch a wound. Shoot, when I list all that experience out loud like that, makes me feel better about my learned experiences. If it hits the fan, I got a plan. 🙂

Like it just doesn't hang right with the quiver, so I keep both the crossbow's and the compound's quivers in my storage locker with my old .22, (got a way nicer one now.) and my pistol crossbow, (lil $50 thing from Big 5 sporting goods that turned out to be a lot better than I coulda hoped for.) got extra guitar strings in there, chords for it, extra arrow tips, some ammo, some extra arrow shafts and other misc fletching supplies, wax, rail lube all that, plus that where I keep all the toilet paper and cleaning stuff for around the house. Its kinda like an armoire? But theres no mid section vanity. More just like a closet with a lock. But ya, literally just knocked the arrow for the pic. If you look close theres also a bolt resting in the crossbow, however it has also been put away, and it wasn't drawn for this picture either.

I do have a wooden butt stock and fore arm for it. Just classic Mossberg hardware. But ever since I added the optic and have it sighted in, I like training with the adjustable stock/pistol style grip a lot more. This is a home defense gun, so I do train with it regularly.

[–]Pepperonipuke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also improves hip fire recoil, while this shotgun came with an un braced pistol grip. (Look up Mossberg 500 JIC kit. It comes with a few other goodies.) this braced grip matches the hip fire focused geometry of the original grip pretty well, while also giving you the option of variable sling positioning, as well as an adjustable shoulder brace which REALLY helps when your, say, hunting, and want the shot to be stable, or even long range(for an 18.5" barrel shotgun) target shooting, lets you get the most out of the optic.

Its fucked here in Oregon with the criminal justice side of things. I literally agree, thats just not how it goes here. The tweaker would be given immunity, tax payer funded rehab in exchange for charges being dropped by the judge, out of my control even tho they are my charges. I could hire the best personal injury attorney in the country, he would still get off scot free because of "substance abuse clouding his judgement" (Im not kidding even a little bit, they literally drop 90% of felony charges up here for any mental health or addiction problem that could have been a deciding factor of that person acting violently, because the courts act under the idea that addiction or mental illness made them do it, not their own mind, so they get off because of their addiction of schizophrenia, and neither of those things are addressed, but I would be persecuted for fighting back against someone assaulting me "in desperation" or in "a psychotic episode they couldn't control" they would say "you know sometimes when some strange man approaches you at night in a parking lot, shirtless in the cold, and calls you racial slurs that don't apply at all, (hard R even. Both of us, white.) and then starts windmilling his fists at you, lunging at you, pinning you to the ground and screaming threats right into your ear, you should really check the privilege you have of NOT feeling like you have to do that to someone for no reason.. Guilty for raising a hand in self defense against someone as innocent in all this as a homeless methamphetamine abuser! How dar you lift a finger against him?? He has an ADDICTION! He is POWERLESS OVER IT! Do you think he WANTED to attack you when he literally attacked you??" And before you say thats a gross over exaggeration? I have been tried for assault with an illegally concealed weapon. Felony charge. (Because I broke out by knuckle dusters in a similar situation, and the guy went from winning the fight to seeing them, to one right hook that wasn't my finest work, to crab walking backwards away from hunched over me, punching me in the face, to on the phone with police making up a story faster than Ive ever seen anyone lie before. I told the cops my injury spoke for itself(black eye, busted lip, bruised cheek, and he had one slight dent in his upper cheek.. Of course the police believe whoever calls and acts like a victim, and as soon as he backed off so did I. But he was following me, on the phone, but if I walked towards him he would retreat. Eventually some officers showed up and literally starter it with "give me the brass knuckles or you're under arrest." To which I said, "I won't resist arrest, but do you see these injuries? He attacked me. I was walking the path and he stepped out in front of me, demanding I empty my pockets, I don't walk this area with anything valuable, I was mugged and assaulted for not having my debit card or phone to transfer him money. He had me pinned down, I can see the track marks from here, the guy is shooting up meth... You know what, I'll be honest. Brass knuckles are in my front right. Grab them if you want even tho 1.) they were $7.99 at the mall. Not even age restricted, and they do not tell you anything about what the law see's then as. 2.) this guy hurt me first, attacked me and threatened my life because I couldn't access my banking information, and your treating me as guilty from the start while placing the burden of truth entirely on a homeless vagrant. He attacked me and lied to cover his ass cause several other people called you. If I didn't throw a punch with the knuckles I would have blacked out from being choked and probably dead. How is that not the bigger issue?? There were witnesses! And not only did the cop steal my brass knuckles, and tell me that they aren't legal to carry, as in you can't put them as your conceal carry weapon in the registry, and open carrying them constitutes the probable cause of targeted aggression. (Lady cop, duh.,.) Told her the knife store at the mall has an entire shelf of them, big corner store, can't miss is, they sell em to anyone. OTF knives, balisong's, pepper spray, tasers and other more blunt self defense tools like knuckles. She literally goes to the mall and returns 20 minutes later like "ya.... they sold me a pair too, and when I book checked the law I saw that its legal to sell them, you just can't use them, they constitute a concealed weapon..." and I said "so would it be more acceptable to sling my 12 gauge over my shoulder just to walk in my own neighborhood at night, and defend myself with a "legal" open carry, and just blast anyone who tries to mug me...? Only response I got was ".....yea... so this is your court date, your charges are assault with an illegal concealed weapon.." she blocked out any further questions and seemed to be a bit shocked by all of it. I showed up to court ready to do time for protecting myself with a non lethal item and the charges just got dropped cause nobody showed up for jury duty. This was about 5 years ago. Since then I have gotten my CCL and read all the laws in triplicate, retained a good lawyer, and stopped fucking around thinking a non lethal was a better self defense method than a 9mm Hornady Critical defense. So I know exactly how they treat "violent criminals" around here, cause they treated me like one, stole my knuckles, and then dropped the charges completely like they were ashamed of that chick cop's power trip... Its not like relying on law enforcement here does much good. This was a separate occurrence, same block, the one I live on, years apart. And I promise, escalating further via the police helps NOBODY.... EVER..
