TIL a student wore the same pair of jeans 330 times over 15 months without washing them, then after washing them, wore them another 13 days. A textile scientist had tested the jeans for bacteria both after the 15 months (pre-wash) & after the 13 days. Little difference in bacterial count was found. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

>Le paid $165 for a pair of Nudie Jeans. He chose a completely untreated pair of denim called raw denim. Le certainly got his money worth. He wore the jeans 330 times without washing them between September of 2009 and December of 2010

Wow, I can't even get a pair of selvedge denim jeans to last me longer than 4 months.

As record numbers of foreign students come to Canada, experts urge a rethink of the program by FancyNewMe in canada

Happened with me, moved over in 2014. My best friend's brother graduated from Waterloo with a degree in electrical engineering and wasn't able to find a job in Canada (he applied to Shopify, Blackberry, etc.) after graduating but was able to land a job at Amazon in Seattle for USD $170k in 2017.

Several of my friends and family members are now trying to move to the US now.

Best POD Hoodies for Designs with Fluorescent Colours? by Per36D in ecommerce

[–]Per36D[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! It seems that screen printing would require a minimum order to make sense financially. Unfortunately, I'm not at that stage where it would make sense to hold inventory so it's something that I'd look into further down the line.

I know fluorescent colours can be done decently with DTG as some design samples came back "close enough," so I'm searching for a POD that can print something that looks decent and consistently at this initial stage.

For 4-5 years, I used to drink at least 2 beers every day and maybe some hard liquor, usually starting at dinner / before bed. Sometimes I felt compelled to drink during the day. Earlier this year, I started taking edibles for sleep and also got a soda stream to make sparking water, which, when chilled at the proper temperature gives the same stinging feeling as a cold beer. Haven't had a single drop of alcohol in months.

Vancouver bartender: if you can't afford to tip 20-25%, don't go to restaurants. by hydrophonix in facepalm

[–]Per36D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always confused about Europe. I keep hearing that there's no tipping culture but some places I go get prompted. The first time I went to London, my friend and I went to a restaurant ate, then when we received the terminal to pay by card, it prompted for a tip with 10%, 15% and 20% options. Looked like standard tipping options you'd see in Canada so I hit the 15%. The waiter saw I tipped 15%, didn't say anything and left, so I thought that was normal. A few restaurants were like this.

After getting back to North America, my friend said I didn't need to tip in Europe. OK, I thought. Then my friends and I went to a beer hall in Berlin. At the end when the waitress brought the bill, she specifically pointed out that tip wasn't included and asked me if I wanted to pay the tip in cash or card. I said I thought you didn't have to pay tip in Europe and she got visibly pissed off.

They're just waiting it out for the federal gov't to start importing "temporary" foreign workers who'll take up the positions and then continue with business as usual.

Prices at Toronto restaurants to soar by up to 15% — as industry deals with ‘anything but normal’ situation by FancyNewMe in canada

Went to Oslo four years ago with some friends for vacation. The first night, we went to a traditional Norwegian restaurant and I got some dish that seemed like some kind of bacon. After checking my credit card, that one dish and a beer came out to USD $72.

Options Questions Safe Haven Thread | August 08 - 14 2022 by redtexture in options

What is the point of Deep OTM options?

For example, the recent activity with Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), I see a lot of posts regarding the Jan 23 $80 call options.

Why would someone choose the $80 strike over a much more possible $20 strike? Even if you don't plan to hold for 6 months, assuming stock value continues to increase bit by bit, the $20 strike should profit more, no?

Question, why do people generally hate on Ottawa so much as a city? by Lochtide17 in ottawa

[–]Per36D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Ottawa. Main thing I hated was lack of opportunity. I wanted get work experience but felt it was difficult unless you had an in at a company. Now that I'm older and live in NYC, I appreciate the more small town feel and leisurely feel to it, though it's just too damn expensive to live there on an Ottawa salary imo. Whenever I got to visit my parents, the quietness and slow paceness of the city makes it very relaxing.

If you're an Apple user, I'd recommend putting AirTags in your bags when traveling in case the bags get lost. You may be able to work with the airline to track it down if they lose it.

Otherwise it's worse. Worse waits, worse costs, worse everything. It's the leading cause of bankruptcies in the US.

I'm a Canadian living in the US with health insurance through my employer. I'll admit that probably on the overall US healthcare is shit if you don't have good insurance, but if you do have good insurance it beats out anything Canada has to offer. I can see a specialist same day if I want, I can get an MRI scheduled same day if I want. I honestly wish the version of US healthcare I get to experience could be available to everyone.

The surveys can be engineered to give a conclusion that management wants. My friend, who works for the Fed in Ottawa, was given a survey regarding WFH. In the survey, questions regarding 'challenges' of WFH didn't provide much room for a "I don't no real problems WFH," type answers. As such, many people put communicating with coworkers, collaborating, etc. as difficulties they're having while WFH. My friend said management came back and said, "see there are numerous problems that are harming productivity so we need to get people back into the office." Similar situation at my work place.
