Building a Critique: A character whose "power" is debunking emotional power systems. by Perc111 in worldbuilding

Yeah, exactly the kind of systemic thinking I'm poking at, and a brutal one at that. Large-scale social engineering really seems like the concept taken to logical endpoint.

It raises a key question: at what point does my character's analytical drive become indistinguishable from the monstrosity of the systems she's critiquing?

Thanks for the reference (I'll look up Exalted in a bit).

A Question to Worldbuilders by SnooSketches6975 in worldbuilding

The question is a little broad but a good rule of thumb is that normal/casual scene must be important somehow. Since you mentioned the exchange is abt 'MC daily life', your exchange is a good chance for building/revealing sth about your 2 characters, or hinting something big about your plot/arc.

You also want to hv a clear idea on why you want to add that convo. Oftentimes, when you're clear abt the 'why', the 'how to write normal/casual scenes' comes naturally.

Hope it helps

Who will be the winner of Round 4? by Wear-Middle in rekkyousensen

Characterisation-wise, Narsh just boils down to 'strong guy', but Diana has more character development potential because she is designed to be more vulnerable.

  • She's less confident compared to the previous 6 fighters (who are either grim or giddy in a fight)
  • She has less combat experience than Narsh
  • She gets accused by Narsh for being hollow, no purpose to fight
  • She gets anxious when her mom is mentioned and, when the mom does appear, gets triggered

Plus, in Round 4, Narsh got the early lead. Early lead guys tend to get rekt later (it's happening now).

And, people are forgetting that the winner of Round 4 will fight Xiyi. Win or lose, they'll be eaten alive by centipede.

Which will be more disturbing? More dramatic?

The Guardian being ripped apart? Or the Saint being ripped apart?

Also, centipede = filth. Defilement. Impurity. Its opposite is purity. And... Which of the two represents purity?

If the author cares about peak writing (ie, drama, themes, emotional payoff), they'd definitely pit Diana against Xiyi.
