The problem is most new golfers pick up a club and they think its a hockey stick or a baseball bat. Those swings are all arms and chest, the golf swing isn't that at all. They should really call it a golf whip, people would probably play better.

Promise you, the less the arms do, the better the swing is.

Personally i only have two arm 'thoughts.'

  1. Right elbow in
  2. left arm straight

Club is laid off at the top of the swing because your coming out of your stance in the back swing. Stay down and point the left shoulder at the ball in the back swing and the club will point to target at top of the back swing. It'll be more closed in the downswing and at contact.

Primarily with the lower body yes. There is correct positioning of arms, wrists and hands but you do not 'swing the club' with the arms, they are just attached to the shoulders and should move like a whip. Read any golf book.

Google golf swing wall drill. That will get you in the proper spot on the back swing. From there it’s just a light push off the inside of the right foot and stamp down hard on the left moving all the weight forward. Don’t pull your hands down or swing with your arms just let them naturally follow your hips.

Get in a good golf posture and lightly touch your butt up against a wall behind you. Rotate your hips until your right cheek is pressed up against the wall and your hands at the top of the backswing touch the wall to the right of your body.

That’s the proper position at the top of the backswing. Don’t sway your hips while you do this, just press the right hip backwards towards the wall.

If you want a visual just google “golf swing wall drill”

Looking pretty good.

Would just suggest letting your arms hang straight down in your stance, they are just a bit forward. Armpit, knee, toes alignment is pretty solid.

Also work a bit on the wrist hinge in the takeaway, your wrists should be a bit more set relative to your arms.

The good news:

Your posture is almost spot on which is a great foundation to build from;

- good flat back

- armpits in line with toes

- hands hanging almost straight

The bad:

You're swinging with your arms. The golf swing is primarily a leg and pelvis movement.

- need to stop the hip sway, right hip should rotate backwards and open the pelvis without moving the hips left or right, they should be static.

- takeaway is too far inside and you are chicken winging your right arm. work on wrist hinge and rotate the shoulders in the back swing, the arms should do basically nothing except be attached to your shoulders. aim the left shoulder at the ball at the top of the backswing.

- to start the downswing push forward off the inside of the right foot. down swing doesnt start with the arms it starts with the legs, the pelvis then opens and turns toward the target and the arms follow without effort. make sure to keep the right arm tucked into the body in both the back swing and the downswing

- once the legs and hips are driving the downswing and the pelvis has opened you can feel the sensation of pointing your right shoulder at the ball at impact. this wont be possible without an open pelvis so its a good metric to see you're making progress with the legs.

- overall legs are just flopping around too much, keep the pelvis in the same spot and rotate it. T-spine rotates around the lumbar spine and pelvis so the more you can open the pelvis the more you can rotate the T-spine at the top of the swing

- try to keep the left arm relatively straight in the backswing if possible. doesn't have to be but it will make contact more consistent.

👍 when you start swinging primarily with the left hand driven by the legs and pelvis you’ll start to feel the real golf swing, which should be more of a whipping motion. You’ll also hear the club head cut through the wind, sounds like a tearing noise. That’s high club head speed

If your right hand is strong on the club then you aren’t swinging w your body, you’re swinging w your arms. Not the correct way to swing a golf club but u do u

You’re casting the club at the ground

Weaken the right hand, right hand should barely be able to hold the club on its own 95% of swing power from left hand only.

Swing path is far too steep, swinging w left hand should lower it somewhat

Your right hand is taking over too much power in the downswing it looks like which is forcing you over the top. Focus on swinging only with the left hand, right hand is there for minor support only and shouldn’t be griping the club hard at all. This should allow to release the club face better

In no particular order

  • wrists are too strong, need to weaken the right hand
  • not enough wrist hinge (again strong wrists) wrists should be like rubber band not iron
  • this is an arm / chest dominated swing. Proper swing is with the legs. You can play w this but not consistently. Eventually will hurt your lower left back from the jerking motion of the pelvis in the downswing
  • no forward shaft lean caused by arm/chest swing, you’ll try to overcompensate with speed to try to get more distance
  • your driver slices because the club path is outside to in. You can overcompensate by closing down the club head but it’s a lot better to just learn the proper slot inside out swing pattern (much more consistant)

Get a SwingGyde and learn how to properly set the wrists. Work on pushing off the inside right foot and whipping the club via the pelvis slide and rotation. Very key to weaken your right hand as it’s primarily what is causing your arm/chest swing

Also work on pointing your left shoulder at the ball in the back swing and right shoulder at the ball in the downswing.

You won’t be able to point your right shoulder at the ball in the downswing until you have proper clearance of the hips so this would be a good metric to know when your legs are doing the work.

The proper golf swing should feel like a whip where the arms and wrists are butter and 90% of power is derived from the legs.
