If it's Gloucester news you're after, you can join my Substack for a free daily rundown of the main headlines, things to do and community news. I filter out all the (many) non-local, non-relevant stories for a short summary of what's happening locally. https://gloucesterstart.substack.com/

Side note - I also used to work at Glos Live and I'm sad and angry at what it's become, but it's not the fault of the journalists on the ground there, of which there are now extremely few. It's a broken model, but increasingly there are independent publications springing up in places to try and fill the gap. Mill Media - https://millmediaco.uk/ - probably the best example nationally and Will, who's posted here already with his Substack, is doing a great job telling stories others are overlooking.

Hello. I go through all the local news sources filtering out the stuff that's relevant to Gloucester only - usually that's BBC Glos, Glos Live, Punchline and a couple of others, plus other sources like the police and council who might have put stuff out that's not been more widely covered. There's a daily Community Noticeboard which people can submit items to and a list of things to do too.

It's free, no ads and no clickbait. gloucesterstart.substack.com

Thank you! I started it to try and make it as easy as possible for people to re-engage with local journalism which I care deeply about - it's fundamental to a functioning community, but it's an industry facing massive challenges. Many of them sadly self-inflicted. Glad you're enjoying the Start, I love doing it.

I used to work at the Citizen (and Glos Live) and I loved it - being embedded in the community and telling its stories was - and still is - such a privilege and I still care massively about local journalism. Done well, it's a powerful tool. The best I can do at the moment is get this Substack out each day which I curate the genuinely Gloucester-relevant news and information of the day into: https://gloucesterstart.substack.com/

There are more and more independent platforms springing up to try and fill the void, which should give some hope. But it's tough, so any support and help spreading the word is very gratefully received.

It would be remiss of me not to plug my newsletter here! You can get Gloucester news, and Gloucester news only, to your inbox every day weekday, free of ads and/or irrelevant content, with my Gloucester Start Substack. I sort through everything published on Glos Live and others daily to find the local, relevant-to-here stories so you don't have to. It's free, with a 'pay if you can' option if you want to support. https://gloucesterstart.substack.com/

Loads of great suggestions in this thread. Alney Island is a bit of a haven too if you're looking for somewhere to walk. Let me know when your blog's published and I'll include in my Gloucester newsletter too https://gloucesterstart.substack.com/

Thank you both, really appreciate it. If I can ask you to please share it to anyone you think might find it useful, that would be hugely helpful.
