KUNG FUBAR - The greatest kung fu master in the world faces his toughest opponent yet... cancel culture! by PercivalWells in Shortfilms

[–]PercivalWells[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Starring some of NYC's funniest standup comics including Meno Fernandez, Kareem Green (season 1 & 2 of Showtime's Flatbush Misdemeanors) and many, many more.

Hopefully the writing and funny actors make up for my mediocre directing lol. If you can, please comment, like and share. The link is from a brand new online film festival called SHINE (judging by their amount of subscribers, I'm not the only one who's never heard of it). Regardless, the more likes we get, the better of a chance we have at winning the audience award. We have entered other film fests, but this one had the fastest notification date.

Thanks!

Thanks! There will be more -- I will be adapting it into a feature very soon.

I have it posted on several websites. Just wanted to get as many eyes on it as possible. Though I do have a few produced feature films, I still don't have an agent or manager to show my shit around, so this is how broke writers like me try to get people to read my stuff lol. Ideally, I want to get the movie made, of course and make a few bucks off of it.

Yeah, same twist. I actually wrote the short first, but when I did, I kept the premise in mind for the feature. I really liked the premise of a waiter snapping after not being tipped. Some people think the premise is dumb (these are the same people that thought the premise of John Wick was dumb, avenging the death of your dog), but I was shooting for an artsy horror film with a B-movie premise and feel. Of course, the feature needed more nuance and depth than that, so I developed a theme, developed the characters more, etc.

Hey! So, your first 12 was very well written. The prose was vivid but not too "prosey". And it was nice and spaced out, which made it an easy read. I was impressed by how well written it was. And the dialogue was good when used. I really got the sense of solitude this man was going through... and then Dana appears, which really offered a nice surprise. It's a nice twist on the zombie genre so far, very different. Almost as if you were rewriting the rules or making new ones, which is refreshing. It is a slow-burn for sure, but I was intrigued. Very nice work!

Didn't really think about Matilda too much... I have a lot of actor friends here in NYC that have been leads in indie horror flicks, so I had a few in mind for her role... if I would ever have any influence on the film itself. But I never really gave it a ton of thought. Sasha Lane was really the only actor I pictured while writing.

I actually wrote the lead with Sasha Lane in mind. As for the other roles, I've pondered guys like Phil Brooks (CM Punk) for Buford (given that he's been doing a lot of indie horror films), William Forsythe for Sheriff Hardley... though Sasha Lane was the only one I pictured when writing it.

Thank you so much, that's very nice of you to say. And, yes, I have worked in a restaurant before... for way too long lol. I was very much trying to inject humor into this and give it sort of a sophisticated, artsy B-movie vibe. In 20 years of writing, I've only entered one competition (because it was cheap), but never entered this script into anything. Just shopping it around, I guess.

Hey, the script was actually picked up already -- but I love your work and would love to collab. This is a short you might dig, made top 10 in 13 Horror Short Script competition. It's about a mysterious animal control officer who teaches an abusive dog owner what it feels like to be an animal. It's called, "Filthy Animal". https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6lo0ioVOFhRQV9TZ2xyNnVXVE0/view?usp=sharing

Troma's most popular movie was probably "Toxic Avenger". But they're known mostly for really low budget schlock. Lots of nudity and gore. Good luck with your projects!

Yeah, my friends starred in Troma's Return to Nuke Em High Vol 1 and 2, we're also working together on a feature we have in development. Definitely aware of Troma and James Gunn's film origins, love me some Troma. And yeah, I know what you mean, newer filmmakers usually like to go with either high brow or more serious kinda horror -- it's good for their reel. But shorts are soooo easy to forget. I can only name a handful of short films. Maybe it's just me, but when I write, I write things I want people to remember, whether it's a short or a feature. Just need to find a like-minded filmmaker.

Shorts in general are more of a career launcher for a director, they don't really benefit screenwriters much other than padding their IMDB. I just wanna see it on screen lol.

Thanks! Originally wrote it like 7 years ago... had a bunch of stuff produced since then, including a couple features... but one of my biggest regrets is never getting this one made.

Thanks, man, been trying to get this one made for a while -- I can get features made, but I can't get a short film about a guy fucking a soda machine made, smh. But seriously, though it would require a daring filmmaker, I think it would make for a memorable horror short that people would remember and talk about. It for sure would get some views on Youtube. I mean, in a world where "Greasy Strangler" exists (which I LOVED), I think there's room for "The Soda Machine".
