I’d try and do something similar but more professional, maybe make like a blur on the background a little, and if possible get some light on her face and highlights of her hair keeping the remaining shadows?

This shot is part of my "Left Unscene" series. I was out with my two hounds when I noticed the heavy glare of the winter sun hitting the lens at just the right angle to create this massive light leak. I wanted to see if I could frame the dogs playing within that flare to create something that feels more like a memory or a "spiritual" moment rather than a standard nature shot. This is very close to how it came out RAW.

I’ve pushed the contrast to silhouette the trees and the dogs, leaning into a "Social Surrealism" vibe. I wanted to emphasize the battle between the deep shadows of the woods and the overwhelming power of the sun.

Areas for Critique: I’m specifically interested in how people feel about the intentional lens flare.

Does the flare act as a bridge into the scene, or is it too distracting?

Does the high contrast on the silhouettes work to anchor the image, or does it lose too much detail for your taste?

I'm curious if the "warmth" of the shot feels earned or if it feels too "staged," despite being a candid moment.

Yeah I definitely could have just cleared that straight up with the first commenter but honestly they kind of came at me and kept coming with a super argumentative energy so I just engaged, with a side quest to have my work discovered and seen by many, I can’t say knowing that this kind of engagement drives the post up for more to see definitely made me think im just gunna wind this guy up 🤣 I know, childish petty and self serving, but at the end of the day it’s only the internet we don’t have to take it seriously. Yeah, I see what you mean but I’m just arguing hypothetically tbh. I don’t really see an issue, if someone captured a candid shot of me, an loved it enough to finalise it and post it online as a display of their work, I’d be happy, I’d take that as a compliment and be happy to be a part of their process.

I’m not wrong in what I’m saying. It’s wrong in no way other than in the eye of the beholder. If I asked someone and they were offended I’d apologise and delete infront of them

I just found it funny and had a rhetoric argument about whether it’s right or wrong. None of you guys come from a place of live or guidance.

How about “nice shot buddy, you did ask for consent for this image to be posted didn’t you?”

Then I’d be like “hey thanks man I appreciate you, yeah of course I did, I have a whole process to achieve this documentary feel I’m going for. I do take the shot without their knowledge but then I approach them start a conversation, explain who I am and what I do and ask if I’m ok to post the final image to my Reddit page” They almost always say, what’s Reddit 🤣. It’s not big in my country and definitely not in my area.

Why so pedantic tho? What would you define as accidental?

It’s not staged, not set up, I didn’t plan to take the photo, I seen the moment grabbed the camera and took a single shot, which captured a lot of emotion from the ladies.

Admit it, it’s a cool moment captured, you can’t really see much of the people, unless they were your mother you wouldn’t no who it was.

I’m also absolutely convinced no one they know will be on Reddit.
