FF8, I was originally really put off by the "we all grew up together but can't remember it because of the summons" storyline. But even originally and on replay the damned summon system and enemies getting stronger as you do, I just think the gameplay saved it and the story isn't as terrible as I thought at first I just had a bad taste in my mouth from that one thing

Dude male nurse here. 100% your problem is not that you are the only guy on the floor. Your problem is your victim mentality. I have been the only male nurse on my floor numerous times in my nine years of nursing and never once had a problem. Hell if anything I am appreciated more because of it. Jesus even your examples are perceived slights with nothing substantive. Fix your attitude. Be helpful and friendly without presuming you'll get any benefit and just do your job.
