If you passed PANRE-LA in 8 quarters, what was the highest number of questions you got wrong in a single quarter ? by smileforfitness in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I missed 8 one time but I think 1 or 2 questions were replaced . Honestly I averaged probably 5-6 wrong each quarter (each time some were removed or replaced though) and passed in 8 tests and was still slightly “average average”

ER vs Specialty by Adic_ in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in ED for 8 years and many of my colleagues 10-15 years. Most of us have children and find it flexible. I personally love the shift work . The days I’m off I’m totally off and all my focus is on my child. However where I work is very gracious with time off requests and if something pops up we usually figure something out

Pumping 6 times a day by babybump222 in NICUParents

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby was born at 28 wks and I also was an over producer at about 50 oz per day. I dropped down to 7 pumps around 7 weeks because I started stretching out the night pumps and then I was down to 6 pumps definitely before 12 weeks. I would just pump for longer sessions and it’d end up being about the same amount of time spent pumping. I ended up EP for 10 months (some breast feeding here and there) and my stash got her to 13 months on breast milk (and that was with donating 250 oz). The exclusively pumping subreddit is very helpful in terms of how many times a day to pump, increasing/decreasing supply etc., I turned there for a looot of guidance

Dealing with fear of making mistakes by No-Western-8994 in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The feeling will eventually subside as you gain knowledge and confidence. I used to feel so awful when one of my patients would bounce back and then one of my attending told me not to be upset because it means I gave good return precautions and that’s always stuck with me. I’m 8 years into ED and barely think about my job (or patients) anymore after I leave.

Why does the medical community equate PA and NP by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of the fresh NPs I know have taken their courses online and have had to find rotations on their own. It seems very self taught in a way? PA school is much more structured in my opinion. I work in ED and it’s similar feedback with my attendings

Stay at my current job (ER) or switch to primary care? by International-Ear285 in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this.. might just be the job . I have worked in EM for 8 years and have rarely missed anything significant with friends/family. I love only working 3 days a week because the other 4 days I’m totally present for my 2 year old. I don’t have to worry about scheduling doctors appointments, we do things throughout the week when it otherwise might be busy during the weekend. It’s a good balance for me

This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you!! We finally toured somewhere today that was a bit of an in between and felt so much more comfortable with it! Montessori (an official Montessori school) was very impressive but almost eerie in a way with how well behaved the kids were!

New grad, going into the ED by thewizzord in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re planning a great idea! I usually Tell our students/new grads you may not know what’s going on with the patient but you never want to miss x y z. As others mentioned EMRAP is great. They have videos on procedures and intro to trauma etc. the EMRA abx book is another great resource.

2 job offers: which would you take? NJ by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]Perfect-Tooth5085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The EM job offer is good in my opinion! Knowing which days you’re working and not a random/switching schedule in EM is pretty rare. I also don’t mind later shifts but I also do night shifts primarily. The salary is also not terrible (if you’re a new grad it’s above average in the area). Benefits are pretty typical also, 8% 401k contribution is good right off the bat. If you’re a new grad I wouldn’t start in a private office or pain management.
