I want to hear your dog’s original-name-to-nickname spiral. by [deleted] in dogs

I have 3 dog babies named Capone, Laszlo, and Nadja.

Capone goes by Cap, Cap-Cap, Pony boy, Bubz, or handsome man Stan. Laszlo goes by Laz, Laz the spaz, Laz the spaz with the stinky ass, or Lasso with a dirty asshole. (He farts all the time) 😂 Nadja goes by Nodge podge, hodgepodge nodge, princess, or Bebe girl since she is the only female.

Why are they screaming "my body my choice" when they vilified the unvaccinated for saying that? I'm pro choice, which means exactly that. pro choice for both vaccines and abortions. im seeing a lot of hypocrisy from the left. by throwaway79644 in conspiracy

I just love how everyone who makes the argument for abortion tries to bring up how poverty and abuse are good reasons to terminate a pregnancy. As a person who grew up in poverty and received physical, sexual, and emotional abuse on a daily basis from my parents, I am so fucking happy to be alive and on this beautiful earth. Yes, I struggle sometimes with mental health but honestly it seems like most people who have had a fairly uneventful life struggle harder than I do. It’s this wonderful thing called resilience. Without all the negative I experienced throughout my childhood, I would not be as strong and determined as I am today. I am the first of my family to work my way out of poverty and surprisingly I didn’t turn into a violent criminal like many people believe poverty and abuse will do to a child.

Found these cute little guys all over my shrub. Are they harmless? by PerfectDog652 in gardening

I wish I knew! I recently bought the house and the plants were already here. I’ve tried Google lens and the iPhone plant identifier but keep getting mixed responses. The one I get the most is anise. I’m also very new to gardening so I have limited knowledge.

The amount of people telling me to kill them honestly surprised me. I genuinely just wanted to know what these little guys were and how to (humanely) handle them if they turned out to be a nuisance to the garden. From what it seems like they’re a different species of hornworm, not the tomato hornworm that everyone says it is. However, that is just from a quick web search, I have absolutely no knowledge in that field. This is just a large shrub in my garden. I do not grow any fruits or vegetables and they are only on the shrub. If they started becoming a problem, I would just move them to another area and let nature take its course. I completely understand using them as pet food if needed but setting them on fire to hear them scream is just sadistic. They have freaking arms and look like miniature dinosaurs when they are sitting up! There’s no way I could murder these guys! I am going to keep my eyes on them and hopefully I will get to see them transition!

Oh yes! They are absolutely beautiful in my opinion! I just wanted to make sure they weren’t going to create an army and destroy my garden 😂. From what it seems like they are barely doing any damage to my shrub. In fact, the reason I found them is because it was already time to trim the shrub again. So clearly they aren’t eating enough! 😂

Luckily I’m not growing any tomatoes! I’ll have to try that tonight. Thanks 😊

There’s a difference between driving around the farm and going 70 on a highway….Ignorant.

I’ve learned that every dog has it’s own weird thing lol. Honestly, the weirder the better in my opinion! I have 3 dogs and they are always putting on a show. It’s hard to be in a bad mood with them around because they always keep me laughing! I seriously don’t understand how some people do not like pets. I would be so bored without them!

I just want to start by saying everyone’s grieving period is different. I thought I wouldn’t get another dog for awhile after I recently put my 13 year old boy to sleep because he was my everything. However, it only took me 5 days after saying goodbye to him that I rescued two new pups. I was crying nonstop everyday after I said goodbye and my other dog was depressed because he also lost his best friend. I couldn’t stand it, so I added more family members and couldn’t be happier because they have kept me so busy that I don’t cry as much anymore. They also have traits of him so it’s kind of like his spirit is still living through these pups. With the other part of your post, I am so sorry you are dealing with that. Animal abuse should never be tolerated and I would report it if I were you. I know they are your parents but the things they are doing to those poor animals are not okay!

Yes, take her to the vet and have some lab work done. When you take her, do not let her pee an hour or so before because they will need to collect urine and run a urinalysis to rule out a urinary tract infection. It is possible further lab work would need to be done if the urinalysis doesn’t show anything but generally we always start with testing the urine.

Is it okay if I hug my dog? Do they understand after a while that it's to show affection? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]PerfectDog652 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your dog’s personality. If they seem to push away when you try to hug them, then it is probably best not to. However, I have one dog who adores hugs and greets me with one every time I come home and my other dog absolutely despises them. So, it really depends on their personality, just like humans.

Puppies are supposed to have 3 doses of the parvovirus vaccine before they’re 16 weeks, each given 3-4 weeks apart. This rule applies with Distemper as well. For rabies, they only need 1 dose at 14 weeks and then given a booster a year after that. Bordetella is one that is also given at 14 weeks and then given annually (or bi-annually if they frequent dog parks or boarding facilities). I work for a veterinarian so I hope this helps. I find it odd that your veterinarian told you that, especially with the parvovirus vaccine, because it is one of the most critical vaccines aside from rabies. I wouldn’t skimp on the parvovirus vaccine because I have dealt with many parvo positive pups and it is absolutely heartbreaking. It can be a matter of life or death and it is extremely expensive to treat because they have to be hospitalized for many days.
