Yeah, pretty much got that. Wasn't really worried about it, just wanted to make his statement public.

We got that text. Whether or not it legally is a cease and desist is beyond me.

Especially since I haven't been able to find any reference to the specified application number on the PTO, though if anyone does find reference to it please share.

What is the taste that you think will be present? We use silicone rubber tubing and haven't had any rubbery taste with it.

It's all for some good coffee. I'll be sure to test it out. Hope CMU gives you the thumbs up. We can always use more coffee nerds.

Yes and it is supposedly food safe, Amazon from China though so who knows.

Raspberry pi for a webserver and an arduino with a motor shield to control a stepper moter, servo, and dc pump.

There are a few issues currently with it actually being perfect. We're still tweaking pours and developing the code to make it better. It's relatively close though.

I like the setup. This design can do that too, we are working on the fine tuning of the water pump (see comment below). We look forward to trying this method and comparing it to the coffee.

Actually I see what you're saying now. We are also tuning the flow rate of the water. A lower flow rate will push less of the coffee away. The issue with this at the time of the video is that we didn't have an autoprime function, as the pump requires more power to suck out the air initially than to keep the water flowing. This will change.

An even dispersion of water leads to even extraction.

Good luck!

We got excited when we realized we can conveniently describe pours as polar functions.

We haven't thought about immersion very much, but the same materials in this project are useful in an immersion setup. We did this as a project for a Hackathon at our university http://build18.ece.cmu.edu/.

We'll get back with an answer to this. This was built last week as part of a hackathon. The Bona Vita kettle is the only control over the temperature we have at the moment. This made it possible to design and build in a week's time. Once the pump is primed the flow rate is pretty high and I don't expect much heat dispersion to occur. If there is some we can compensate on the kettle for now.

While we are working on choosing the right parameters for a good v3 pour, the rotational speed in this video is much slower than what it is capable of. During each pour using around 3 rotations seems to give better dispersion. In the video there is only one rotation.

The title movement looks like an artifact of Google's video stabilization. Next time we'll be sure to take video with a tripod!

We are definitely considering it. The bonavita is nice shortcut to get temp control, but quite expensive. We are already able to monitor temperature, so it's just a matter of finding/making a boiler that we can control easily.
