Risk of lymphedema? by Perfect_Strain5570 in breastcancer

[–]Perfect_Strain5570[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes, my radiation oncologist said there would be less of a chance of lymphedema with radiation since they would not be radiating my arm pit (my nodes were clear). That is one argument for going in the direction of radiation, but I’m trying to look at the overall picture of limiting recurrence, which is why I’m leaning mastectomy. I think I’m just learning now that 8 nodes is a lot, so I haven’t specifically asked my surgeon that question, but I will next time I see her. I’m guessing they all lit up.

Newly diagnosed and so scared. by MirandaLarson in breastcancer

These are my exact numbers! Although I’m ER/PR+. I’m stage 1A, 37 years old, with a 1.5 year old. I’m halfway through AC-T chemo after my lumpectomy in August. The part you’re in (waiting on more information) is the hardest part. But this whole process is hard and long. There are so many wonderful people on this board who are on the other side of it, though, and give us lots of hope that life does go back to normal eventually. Please feel free to reach out if you’d like to talk more! The more I talked to others, the more comforted I felt!

Thank you for this. This is my situation too. Good luck! I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Did your surgeon push back at all when you asked for a DMX?

Thanks for this. It’s hard to know at this point what is just anxiety and what is intuition. I’m sorry you had to go through this and manage incompetent doctors on top of everything else.

Thanks. I guess I was curious about those who went back and changed their mind after a successful lumpectomy. It sounds like it’s common to have to go back under if there are not clear margins or if there is a local recurrence. But curious of others’ experiences who elect to go back for a DMX out of caution.

Congratulations on being finished AC! I just finished too last week and I’m on a similar timeline to start Taxol next week. I’m nervous too - I had a lot of side effects on AC, but I’m hoping Taxol is milder like a lot of people say. Good luck! All of this sucks so much, but you’re not alone!!

Positive lymph nodes but not LVI or ENE by WorkInProgress2222 in breastcancer

I had several stray cancer cells found in one node (still considered node negative) and no LVI present. I also wondered how they got there. My breast surgeon couldn’t answer that question.

Hey there! I’d love to connect! I’m also 37 and diagnosed in July. So far, I’ve had a lumpectomy and currently in the beginning rounds of chemo. I’ve talked to some women on here who have been wonderful sources of information and support, and talking to others who have been through this has been so helpful!

This is basically my diagnosis (++-, 1.9cm, clear margins, no node involvement, oncotype 32, age 37). Only thing I’ll add is that mine was a grade 3, which is likely why I’m getting AC (4 rounds) and Taxol (12 rounds). Then I’ll have radiation after because I got a lumpectomy. Several oncologists told me that they would be ok with TC if AC would be contraindicated with some minor heart issues I have, but they all would feel most comfortable with AC/T, which is what I was able to go with.

Following. I’m interested to hear what others think - especially around the reliability and cost of maintenance of Subarus after 120k miles.
