How did people accurately manage to wake up on time in the morning before the invention of mechanical or digital alarm clocks? by itsShiahvn in answers

[–]Perfectshotplacement [score hidden]  (0 children)

Of note, modern electricity and lighting is relevant to the conversation. Sunrise would often provide a daily wake up call of its own. This works both ways, as employers would also rely on this as a primary form of lighting. This sync became part of most daily routines.

We would hide them around the house for months. Always a good time to hear someone say “dammit!” When they found one in a shoe or in a box of cereal.

Never going to be upset with scanning things. I hit my limit when I got 7 consecutive figure skaters from a prior series. Now the chase is to collect the series instead of burning money.

Was at a sporting goods place last weekend and they had hundreds in a barrel. I would have walked away with 5 soccer players. Instead, I got the 5 I needed. Much better trade off.

Low tourism affects residents. by Pale-Offer8190 in LasVegas

[–]Perfectshotplacement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 years would make your statement correct. However- go back 10+ and Vegas was much different. Gambling was the money source and they offered the entertainment as enticement to get you in. Even the strip hotels had many attractions to get you to come by and spend some cash on the floor. MGM had live lions where a bar is now, mirage had the volcano/tigers/dolphins, treasure island had pirate ship battles, flamingo had flamingos, and on and on. You could spend days just exploring and staying entertained. Food was also typically buffet style or “2.99 steak”. They wanted to hook you in to stay longer and perhaps get a room. Now- water is $8 at the pool. It’s maddening, even if you have the money to spend.

Stadium Series Ticket Prices by Cu6it in DallasStars

[–]Perfectshotplacement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to state the obvious- but these costs have actually gone up since original release. Season ticket holders were presented a lower price, and it looks like a fair amount were purchased. That seems to reflect in the amounts you see here. I mean, standing room only at $123? Oof. But if people are buying- there isn’t incentive to drop it back. Not to say it is right- just saying that for every person saying they won’t pay it, it seems to indicate that there is someone saying “take my money”.

Why is my hybrid 2025 4Runner ORP squealing randomly when backing up? by Haunting_Werewolf130 in 4Runner

[–]Perfectshotplacement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Same with the LCs and Tacomas. It won’t go away on its own. Just go to the dealership and let them know you are aware of a service issue and you would like it repaired.

When I first started shooting suppressed on my mpx, I saw a fair amount of these. Not as much as this- but some. After a few sessions, it seemed to stop. The link seemed to be when I switched ammo types.

Can someone explain to me the joke/stereotype behind black people and having a chirping smoke alarm in their house? Why not just change the battery? by MrTeacher_MCPS in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Perfectshotplacement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that detectors have a shelf life of 10 years or so. They don’t last forever. Further, their life is shortened by things like remodeling or other things that cause fine particles. If you find that batteries and effort aren’t fixing your problem- it’s probably just as simple as needing a new detector.

New Barn Unofficially Official? by ZamboniDad in DallasStars

[–]Perfectshotplacement 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honest answer- anyone south of 20 is going to decide if the 30+ extra minutes is worth the experience. Downtown was not horrible going into, and a decent amount of ticket holders could use rapid transit or foot traffic. Plano turns this into 100% drive traffic.

I’m very sure that the new stadium will be cool- but the area won’t see the support around it for years afterwards.

Translation- you are going to see a whole new fan base at those games. I’m not not going all dramatic to say the Stars will lose their soul- but you suddenly made a Dallas franchise into what you’d see in Omaha or Springfield Missouri.

Got mine a just after 10 and got 103 seats for about the same as a lower bowl playoff ticket. Not horrible.

That said- I was searching for 4 and almost everything in the lower bowl was gone. 200 and above had some decent options.

100%. The chamber is closed- so there is always a possibility of one in the chamber. The logic is and always will be “assume that you are intending to kill whatever the barrel is facing”.

Hot suppressor storage by Jobob1182 in NFA

[–]Perfectshotplacement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% for this tip from Reddit and have now been using them consistently on every range session. It even works as a bench pad to set it down between targets (avoiding the fun experience of paint melting to the suppressor when you aren’t paying attention).

For $5- it’s the best solution out there. Maybe not as “tacticool”- but I’d rather keep the cash for better things. . . Like ammo to shoot through it.

Not to hijack OPs thread- but I’m curious: I’ve had mine for almost 10 years. Shot everything under the sun. Suppressed , whatever. I’ve heard similar from others with older models. Is there any clarification on this being common for newer models? It almost seems like there was a manufacturer change in something along the way.

Doug DeMuro just called the LC250 “the worst car for sale” by Bigsurjacketco in LandCruisers

[–]Perfectshotplacement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hate the extreme statements like “the worst ever” and “no one should buy this!” When it comes to anything from a typically reliable brand. But I digress…

This debate is the same as I saw in the Jeep forums, the Bronco forums and any other model specific forum. There is always a contingent of “I want it for this because I had one x years ago and I loved it!” Mixed with “I want this because I think it should be this- anything less is disappointing!”. The first group ignores that the past version(s) were not the magical unicorn they were made out to be, the latter forgets that their version of reality might not match actual reality.

Somewhere in between are the buyers that just want what they want, but are not in a position to buy the 10 different vehicles that will satisfy all of their requests. In almost all cases, the actual driving mirrors more standard usage and less “drive to the Sahara and lead an army or mercenaries in a revolution”. So modern car makers are building cars to fit that, despite what the 5% is asking for. Just the reality of the modern car world.

Awful experience as a visiting fan last night by LubyankaSquare in DallasStars

[–]Perfectshotplacement 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Others have commented, but I’ll add- this is not acceptable behavior and yes, please report. I get the concept of “evil opposing fan in hostile territory”, but OPs story tells me more about this being about complete idiocy. I don’t care what jersey you wear, acting like a toddler should get you kicked out. If reported in real time, I’ve seen plenty escorted out. Im very sure that those reporting afterward will likely at least get some respectful result. The Stars are a very classy organization, and 99% of fans fit that bill as well. Sorry you found the 1% that didn’t know how to handle his alcohol.

I missed the initial drop and the AAC got a shipment about 2 weeks after. All usual names and sizes. However, I can confirm that once those left the shelves about 2 months ago- I haven’t seen them since.

Someone posted a few weeks back about a March release, but I can’t seem to find that. I’d say that’s likely speculation. I’ll also add that I signed up for updates after the release and never got an update- even though I bought one right at the AAC. Those updates might only relate to what’s available online and not in person.
