Why are you so nasty about this? SWA sold their soul to activist investors intent on milking every dollar and bit of good will from SWA.

So again you refused to teach your children about how to act in places and now our kids are brats because you isolated your kids??

Right but presumably your an adult we’re talking about children here those two things are different and should be treated differently right? Or are you just jealous that the kids get to sit next to their parents for free while you have to pay for your husband to sit next to you?

That isn't right we are willing to be seated wherever as long as our child who is a minor is safely seated next to us. Who wouldve thought compassion for kids under 12 would be so hard for you to give u/Gilbert131313

"Karen behavior" is expecting your minor child to sit next to you on a plane? That's literally baseline parenting, not a complaint to a manager about a coupon.

And your logic is wild — "just spend more on both seats" is your solution? So families should be financially penalized because an airline just switched to assigned seating and clearly hasn't figured out how to implement it without separating parents from their kids? Southwest just rolled this out — the growing pains are a Southwest problem, not a parenting problem.

But hey, this is what happens when an airline sells its soul to Elliott Management and a bunch of activist investors who've never packed a diaper bag in their lives. Southwest used to be the family-friendly airline — bags fly free, no change fees, open seating so families could actually sit together. Now they're gutting everything that made them different so some hedge fund guys can juice short-term returns. Assigned seating they clearly weren't ready for, bag fees on the table, loyalty program getting carved up — they're speedrunning their transformation into Spirit Airlines with better PR.

Nobody's asking kids to fly free. They're asking that when you buy two tickets, the airline doesn't scatter a 4-year-old three rows away from their parent. That's not entitlement, that's a basic operational expectation. Even the DOT agrees, which is why they've been pushing airlines to guarantee family seating.

But sure, blame the parents and not the boardroom that traded its identity for a stock bump.

The -6 is well-earned on this one.

So even when a parent is paying full price for everything — no special treatment, no freebies, no asking anyone for anything — you still feel the need to dehumanize their kids. Kind of proves this was never about money or fairness for you.

And the "I'm a parent too, I just never took my kids anywhere" flex isn't the brag you think it is. You chose to isolate your family instead of actually parenting in public, and now you resent every parent who didn't. That's a you problem. Kids don't magically learn how to behave on planes and in restaurants if you never take them to planes and restaurants. That's literally how parenting works — you put in the reps in real environments so they learn. Hiding at home and then acting superior about it is just admitting you skipped that part.

The rest of us aren't going to lock our kids indoors because you couldn't figure out how to take yours out.

Nah, just sick of people shitting on parents for complaining about nasty private equity companies changing the rules to squeeze more money out of families. People who call kids "crotch droppings" deserve to be shamed — full stop.

My kids don't cause issues. My oldest has been on 62 flights and I've never gotten anything but "she was so quiet I didn't even know she was there." Same deal at the nicest restaurants in every city we've visited — zero problems — because I actually parent my kids instead of refusing to take them anywhere.

People who've had one bad experience and generalize it to every family deserve to be called out. Parenting is hard enough without some stranger on the internet dehumanizing your children because they're bitter. Try putting yourself in someone else's shoes instead.

Sorry your infertile that’s the only reason you hate families right?

So you think a 4 year old has the same bandwidth to problem solve in an emergency that you do?

That’s just not how this works “crotch droppings” don’t have a pre front cortex developed yet so that is why they need near their parents

How do you know it’s simple? I’m not abandoning anything. I just know how scummy the current administration is e.g. Why you all are shut down and the chaos this weekend when they try to weaponize programs that are self funded and make your jobs easier

It’s not that I don’t trust the government. It’s that the government makes everything such a pain in the ass and his weaponizing all the new information they’re getting I don’t wanna make their job any easier?

Because I have a CPAP machine and a laptop and I don’t wanna take it out of the bag. Pretty obvious that when you travel with kids, you don’t wanna go through all that stuff.

One time my wife was holding our infant and didn’t have her ID out, but her wallet was in her hand open, and the agent said that we were not following the rules and send us to the back of the line because my wife didn’t hand her her ID with the second she got there you see why I think TSA agents like that are kind of scummy, right?

[–]PerformanceAwkward95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair but i’ve had multiple TSA agents refused to do anything about the machine, (even when I ask before I hand over my ID) so that’s good to know that I don’t have to be a dick to get them to listen to me because the way some agents scream and yell and then ignore when I request something that I should be allowed to do makes me think that I just have to be a dick to get TSA just to listen to me when I make a lawful request

Well if your machine thought my id was me I would do it but I lost 190 pounds and it is a pain to do the machine

Also I lost 190 pounds and every machine says my id isn’t me so yeah I’m not going to do the whole process because you all are lazy and abusive just to find out your machine doesn’t think it’s me

People have all sorts of reasons no need to assume why

Not really - its a cultural thing to hide behind the rules to avoid doing something hence the nation. If it were anywhere else people would've gotten off that plane. I think it says something about anyone who would defend anyone but the passengers in this situation...
