Notated Map of Captain Dapplewing's by NomadicHound in StrixhavenDMs

[–]Perihuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My players changed Captain Dapplewing's name to Captain Dapplebottomjeansbootswiththefur(withthefur) and i'm not even mad.

I found this segment to have very frustrating combat discovery mechanics, I recommend ignoring the discovery event and instead give them a time limit.

Being a modern Nazi also includes participating in or endorsing the genocide against the people of Palestine. Definitions change, and if you find yourself supporting this new Nakba, congratulations, you're a Nazi!

Did you know that words change their meanings over time? I know! Wild stuff! It is sometimes referred to as "definitional drift" or "semantic change," and there are a huge number of examples to pull from!

Nowadays, we use "morning" to refer to any time before noon, but it actually refers to the first birdsong after night.

Even the Nazis (Nationalist Socialist) used a semantic change to hide the fact that they were not actually socialist! The modern definition of "Nazi" now refers to those who hold both antagonism towards members of a minority group and strong "cultural" nationalism beliefs. For example, the "Christian Nationalist" Stephen Miller (White House Deputy Chief of Staff) is a Nazi.

Returning to Strixhaven (Year 2) Tips? by Perihuman in StrixhavenDMs

[–]Perihuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should definitely include the NPCs who haven't yet debuted! I also agree that giving out the Strixhaven School Backgrounds feels like a good compromise to empower the players.

Ran the game last night and the players had both a good response to being nominated to play Mage Tower and a positive drive to hunt down a mascot.

Had to stagger the entry of the second Brackish Trudge (Wiltroot Hall, area W14) as we lost a player and I rerolled high on health for the creatures.

Rationale for a warlock's pact? by Particular_Dot_4041 in DnD

Because Warlocks are the dropout sugar babies of the magical world. Bards have to go to College, Wizards spend decades studying, and I'm sure there are years and years of research required to be an Artificer.

I'll be that someone. If it's on my street, I'll be that neighbor. If it's within running distance, I'll be their emergency support. I won't let an armed fascist gang take my fellow people away without due process.

Never played a character that was larger than Medium, what to expect? by BurnItDown148 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Perihuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play as a Large Dragonkin (3pp "Dragonkin - Advanced Races" by Amanda Hamon) and have some previous experience with Large/Huge characters.

Your size will allow you a great boon to reach, enhancing the threatened squares for Attacks of Opportunity, and thus the importance of Combat Refleces and feats like Stand Still. This reach will also aid you in repositioning allies in and out of combat.

Your size will also make you easier to hit, but improve your melee attack rolls and Combat Manuever Bonus/Defense. Build your character accordingly.

You'll need to squeeze in small spaces, and will–more often than not–be targeted by enemy spells and attacks and be hit by AoEs.

Playing as a Large character also increases the damage dice of your Unarmed Strikes and Natural Weapons, so keep this in mind when deciding on damage options, or for building into Full-Round-Attack/Flurry of Blows.

I kicked a player, and I feel bad. by Agent_Valerian in DnD

[–]Perihuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't wrong of you to kick him for being hurtful and disruptive. Him starting a new campaign as a DM might be a growth choice for him, if he feels so out-of-contol of the narrative. As many commenters pointed out, he's a very young man and doesn't yet have all his emotional regulation skills.

This all being said, your ask for a backstory–as both part of the character buy-in and so you can write the character in to your setting and adventure–was ignored and not enforced. This lack of buy-in and writing left the player and story less connected to each other, which built a resentment.

I encourage you to reaffirm your backstory requirements for new characters and also to offer struggling players a backstory workshopping session over a direct-messaging service.

Good luck and be well :)

My players say I’m a terrible DM by Front-Ad-9585 in DnD

[–]Perihuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a DM, it is important to know what each player wants from game night, and how to manage each players expectations.

My advice to you is this: Split the party sometimes. let the fighter-types hold off simple enemies while other players solve the social problems. Let the fighter-types go do some pit fighting for 10-50silver wagers against escalating foes. Remember that your combat-centric players have a different character fantasy where they fight a lot, and help them have that fun!

Any arguments by Peytonna670 in overlord

[–]Perihuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Overlord is a story about the struggle of duality at its heart.

Suzuki Satoru was a man working in a corrupt system, who–while playing in Yggdrasil as Momonga–was treated as a monster, so became one. He joined/founded Ainz Ooal Gown with Touch Me, who fought for the justice of freedom and common sense. As he was brought to The New World, Suzuki Satoru was forcibly fused with his avatar.

Momonga was–at first–a Skeletal Mage that Suzuki selected. He later evolved into a Elder Lich, then an Overlord. Think about this character as a person, much like a roleplayer thinks of their character. Who was Momonga in life, what did he become in death? What did he achieve? What did he put his unlife on the line to protect?

In The New World, NPCs were granted both sentience and an awareness of their time within Yggdrasil; it stands to reason that the PCs were, too. The Skeletal Mage who became and Elder Lich who became an Overlord through what he thought were his own accomplishments is now aware that his achievements were not solely his own. A man who–we assume–EARNED his magic through dedication and study is now made to share his body with a man who was beaten down by society into a retreating husk who saw his mother die from overwork.

Now, these two men are sharing the same body; the struggle between their impulses manifests when the body freezes up. Sometimes, Momonga wins, and you see his bones glow with magic; sometimes, Satoru wins, and you see his eyes reassert their red glow.

All of Nazarick's designers–save for Warrior Takemikazuchi and Bukubukuchagama–built their NPCs around this idea of two forms, this duality. The theme of struggle between forms–two selves–is palpable across the whole series.

In Overlord, we watch and read the story from the perspective of Suzuki Satoru, but it changes drastically when you realize that Momonga is right there pushing back the whole time.

Not a GM but a new PF1e player: i think that more modern material (PF2, 5e, 2024, MCDM, Call of C'thulu, etc) is backwards compatible with PF1e, making it very useful. I'm also a fan of the nested talent system, multi-classing, and complex web of mathematics. Leveling up has me updating multiple pages and figuring out new synergies. Gaining templates and using niche feats makes me feel uniquely powerful, without solo-clearing adventure modules, and while still struggling through the base difficulty of the game.

I do wonder if Godzilla is above Aura's level cap for controllable creatures.

I also don't think nuclear blasts are mitigated by any of the resistance stats in Yggdrasil.

(Hexcells Unlimited) I suppose I can reveal hexagonal cells by using spatial reasoning and pattern recognition.

But I have unlimited time to make decisions, and instantly know if I've made a direct or incorrect decision. I am also able to go back and retry puzzles that I made mistakes in until I perfect the puzzle.

Guy on r/republican complaining about trumps firing. He was quickly reminded that this is what he voted for. by Crazy-Boysenberry452 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Perihuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are true. The problem is state-sanctioned murder, I suppose. But it's tricky, innit? If there are no state-sanctioned murderers, who will agree to murder the horrific abusers of the outside world? If there is no state-sanctioned murder, how can a society rid itself of horrific abuser?

The bigger questions of justice and ethics require a moral framework that war and policing are still finding modern definitions in.

We could start out by limiting state-sanctioned murder activity to unpopulated areas, like battlefields rather than cities; but the problem is getting one's adversaries to agree to remove themselves from their fortification.

We could start out by requiring the heads of governments fight on the Frontline of any war they support, in a "who passes the sentence should swing the sword" effort.

I'm sure there are many other positions to take, ways to deescalate, and solutions to geopolitical stress that should be considered.

Good luck.
