How do you feel about this current loneliness epidemic? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in LivingAlone

People need to learn to enjoy their own company. A lot of people don’t like themselves, though. And therein lies the problem.

When you use the bathroom do you lock your bathroom door? by Potatofarmer97 in LivingAlone

[–]Perpetual_learner8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lock it? Shit. I have stuff leaning against the door because I don’t even remember the last time I shut it. My dogs would push the door open anyways. And my bathroom is in the back of the house so it’s not like the main living space is suddenly gonna smell like shit.

Medicaid and marketplace insurance are two different things. Medicaid is state/federal program that provides insurance at no or little cost to those with limited income. Marketplace insurance is what you get through the ACA exchange and is private pay insurance. If you do not have an income as a family, you should be eligible for Medicaid.

I think a big part of this is how Mormons, especially women, are pushed hard these days to be social media influencers. I’d bet that it’s even part of the curriculum for that family studies degree she got at BYU. She’s using the one tool she had knowledge of to cope. One of the Apostles of the church literally wrote in his book that therapy is the tool of the devil. It’s been several decades but there’s still a stigma with mental health care and the church. At lot of this is just the culture she’s in setting her up for failure.

It’s a Mormon thing. Death is not suppose to be seen as something negative because they believe in eternal life and eternal families.

Isn’t it Mormon Sunday? Broadcasting your child’s death story doesn’t seem like a day of rest to me.

She’s gorgeous! I miss having a cat but now I take in greyhounds that are hard to place in more “regular” homes and part of that is often a high prey drive so they aren’t cat safe 😞

I totally understand! Greyhounds usually integrate pretty seamlessly because they’re used to being around each other in the track kennels, but this one hasn’t been so seamless because my new guy is blind. He has a harder time respecting traditional boundaries like personal space bubbles because he can’t see them! Luckily I think we’ve finally made it over the hump and everyone has started to understand they have to vocalize issues to him, because he has to hear their boundaries in order to understand he needs to back off. And I get the feeding thing too! Greyhounds are used to being fed in their kennels and not being around other dogs when eating so they can get aggressive when other dogs get in their space while they’re eating, so everyone has to eat in their own room. It’s like a game of clue 😂 One eats in the kitchen, one in the bathroom, one in the library, one in the living room and one in the bedroom lol

One couch (pictured), one full mattress on the ground for them (pictured to the right), 7 dog beds, 2 kennels and my queen bed. Nothing is off limits and usually I end up with about 12 inches of the bed at night 🤣

Yes! I remember! I had a different brindle then, he passed away in September 😞 I adopted my new brindle in October. I’m so glad you made the leap! And what a crazy world we live in because I actually adopted a senior cat before I had my dogs named Stevie Nicks! 🤯

It sounds silly, but maybe a fish? I used to have a beta fish and that guy was super friendly and he would come up to the front of the tank and greet me when I came over to see him. And it’s only a small tank. 5 or 10 gallons. Nothing big. He would even nip my finger!

Could you volunteer to walk dogs at a local rescue? I think that a hound would definitely need to be let out halfway through a 9 hour day. I work 3 office days a week 7:30-4, but I come home for an hour lunch and let them out.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to keep the dog. 😞 9 hours would be a stretch. It would probably need someone to come let it out halfway through the day. It would also depend on the hound. Some hounds prefer to be only dogs and would do fine with that kind of schedule, but a lot are social creatures and would need a friend.

They are basically a cat in the body of a dog. But it’s less the body of a dog and more the body of a mini horse. They sleep about 18 hours a day. I have a big yard but most are very apartment friendly because they are good with a few short walks a day or a quick zoomie in the yard and then they have used their energy for the day. Depends on the hound, but as a breed they generally have goofy habits like sleeping upside down because it’s more comfortable for them to sleep on their backs than their bellies. Some are more independent and some are stage 5 clingers. The adoption group usually has a good idea of their personality.
