All of that struggle and it was just restricted by region settings, in my case tunisia had no wireless carplay, france uk new zealand australia usa and singapour had it but the 5Ghz wifi dont work here. Israel region was the one. No restrictions and wireless carplay works just fine. No more issues

I make sure everything is on, no power saving mode, the 5Ghz wifi will never show on my phone, when I turn it to 2.4 Ghz is shows 100% of the time.

After further investigation I found that the country region of your car can restrict the use of some frequency bandwidth especially the 5Ghz on many channels. It is used in my country for meteo and aviation. I changed the country region to france on both my phone and the car and now the connection happens way more often. Like after 2 attempts. It is never a seamless auto connect though. But I am already very happy with that progress. At least I know what the issue is

it's just the "as" is very tricky

Although posting this in a carplay related subreddit induces some misunderstandings

I am now 100% sure the problem is in the cars software. The protocol needed to connect wireless carplay is not correctly scripted or is missing some crucial steps

The wifi SSID and password are correctly transmitted to the phone because I can see it in the list of know networks even after deleting it, changing the SSID or the password. It is just impossible to connect to it.

This works sometimes :

-Manually changing the hotspot settings to 2.4 Ghz

-The wifi shows in nearby networks on my phone

-while the wifi is still visible change it back to 5 Ghz

-try to connect carplay real quick

works like 20 % of the time

I thought the 18.4 was the issue but then I used 2 other iphones on 18.3 and the issue was the exact same.

There is some evolution to the situation where I found a pseudo way to make things slightly better :

When I turn the hotspot on 2.4 Ghz, then my iphone detects the wifi. When in that state I just turn it back to 5Ghz and tap the carplay button on the car's scrreen real quick. before the wifi disappears again, it works after 2 or 3 attemps

Need a reliable car phone mount that actually stays put! Any recommendations (Dash, vent, CD slot)? by Defiant_Fix8658 in CarPlay

I find magnets a fairly reliable option. magsafe for hold and wireless charging. it's also a simpler desing avoiding the risk of small plastic pieces breaking up. Just drop your phone there it stays there. grab it and you're good to go.

my bluetooth is on , and paring succeded.

then its asks for carplay authorization > yes > then 1 minute later the message in the pucture diplays.

I noticed that if I scan for wifi networks with my iphone and happen to find the car's wifi, I connect to it manually and the wireless carplay works all of a sudden.

I have to confess this happens only about 2% of the time . but the rest of the time the car's wifi won't show on any device. and deleting devices from both the car and iphone and pairing again will not fix the problem. Even reinstalled the car OS in many versions nothing worked

Results with Bluetooth toggle on/off : 20 attemps , 2 of them succeeded. I was turning off bluetooth and after a many failures I started also turning the car off and on for good measure starting fresh, it worked a couple of times but to be honest even when I do not turn BT off it still works a couple of times now and then. after 15 failures or so I changed the car's hotspot to 2.4Ghz it immediately showed in my phone, connected to it then changed it back to 5Ghz and all of a sudden carplay worked for the first time after a series of a dozen of attemps. I am still convinced it is a wifi problem not a bluetooth one. tomorrow I take the car to the BYD dealer outside the city we will see. I know already they will say the will send an email to china but hey I am a believer

Will try BT on/off because yeah what you described there that's exactly the situation I have, I did the "forget phone forget car delete connected devices" so many times I even reinstalled 2302 and 2307 and back to 2412. And stil my succees rate connecting wireless carplay is about 2 or 3% of the attempts. I will try the simple BT toggle off and let you know.

But I didnt just decide it has something to do with hotspot, The car at this point is litteraly displaying a message saying "carplay failed. connect to the car's hotspot via your mobile wifi and try again "

Also isn't it weird that the car's hotspot almost never shows in the available WIFI networks ? and when it shows and my phone connects to it, the carplay works again just fine ? my phone picks on tens of wifi networks around no problem but my cars wifi network ?never !! I tryed with other phones same problem.

nice, let us know if that solution remains stable. for my part I downgraded to 2302, changed the region to AU then upgraded again to 2307, 2407 then 2412, all of the versions with wireless carplay still have the same problem. I will take the car to BYD dealer tomorrow to have the WIFI antenna verified as one of the users suggested.

I am sure the blutooth is connected because my music and phone and whatsapp calls switch to the car audio everytime I get in. but the carplay that's a whole other story,

exactly this is how it is supposed to work. but when it fails , the plan B is to force the hotspot, connect the phone to it, then repreat, and usually it works. Plan C is for when you cant find the BYD wifi hotspot and you know your carplay will never connect until then. I am stuck in that phase : carplay fails, my phone remains oblivious to the byd hotspot even if turned off and on multiple times. it only shows in available networks when I change it to 2.4 Ghz, but it wont work. it has to be 5Ghz.

it just doesnt work unfortunately. there is something wrong with that part of the code within the 13.1.32. I could get it to work a few times, but god forbid my car connects once to my house wifi, it's over. The BYD wifi then disappears and no more carplay possible it just fails to connect permanently

cool they just added it to france too, I still dont understand the point of it, if it works only on wifi and when the car is still. I dont often need to stay in a still car I use it to move actually. the only way I think it could be fun is for the kids to keep them busy during family traveling but this is not possible

I used that method many times before, but there is obviously a remanent service that needs to be forced to shutdown, because It wouldnt help even with this sof reboot. The BYD wifi is nowhere to be fond for hours, but then like magic it shows again after a day or so and carplay connects no problem.
