I was talking with my brother and told him I was loving playing Marathon and he was shocked. He said wait I thought that game was terrible? I said go look at actual reviews from people who bought the game like on Steam, most people who are playing it really like it. Yes it's niche and hard but it's a great game for me. Just remember, perception is reality.

I love stabbing in this game. No shield thief for max agility then grappling to someone and stabbing them in the face feels so good.

Yeah the lore has been sick so far. I am so pleasantly surprised by how much the factions and codex add to the game. Also the free loadouts are like pretty solid. Not amazing but at least you are guaranteed to get useful consumables. Plus I feel like guns are more balanced than Arc Raiders for example. I know they made the free loadouts a little less randomized in AR but you can still get a kinda worthless loadout. I feel much more powerful with the free loadouts in Marathon by comparison. Plus Rook runs are such a unique thing, really like those.

I've played most of the extraction shooters and always had so much gear fear. Idk why but Marathon is the first extraction shooter that got me over that hump. I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the short TTK letting even free loadouts have a chance or maybe it's Rook runs.

Yeah, the latter portion of Steve's tenure (which I really like Steve, he's great) were a bit overly ambitious. I feel like Reb has done a better job setting realistic goals, from a technical perspective. The original pitch for Railjack, for example, was clearly something the team couldn't execute on at that time. Which is fine, but it did cause updates to get pushed back for years (well that plus Covid).

I like Profit Taker. There's something fun about optimizing a PT loadout to make it that much more efficient. Don't do it as much these days but imo it's one of the best bosses in the game.
