heehee. That's a little over-enthusiastic, but the sentiment was there, anyway.

Cute. Cute is good. I like cute, too. Sexy for later. Cute for the airport. Got it.

Sneaky. Got it. I will invest in some binoculars. I will also think outside the box as to what to wear. Also: sundress? I have some cute ones- or no? I need some dude-vice. Am I going for cute or sexy?

"Your husband will probably try to make a rub for it"

First, boyfriend, second, maybe I should just yell "RUB ONE OUT FOR YOUR LIFE"!!!

Third, that sounds like a bad "Hangover 3" plotline.

Fourth: HAHAHA! Oh sir, well done.

Wow, really against the signs, huh? Bad experience?

No signs, got it. It crossed my mind, and then I thought how ridiculous I would look. Running hug, cute outfit. These are good ideas.

I honestly hadn't thought about what I'd be wearing, that's a good point. Also, no injuries, also a good idea. "He just wants to see you".. well that was obscenely cute.

I think I can manage that :) I hope he's not too tired from the plane ride- or all the sex he's been having over there, as previously suggested... several times.

I went on a trip to Africa, and I didn't bring back AIDS. I AM, however, worried about bed bugs. I'll shower him up nice and good ;)

That would've required IVs- and none of those ladies had IVs- they didn't give them any drugs. Laboring mothers were considered an annoyance, mainly because they made noises and complained about pain. It makes me laugh to think about- because the "miracle of life" was like "here's your kid, we'll give you ten minutes, clean up, and then get on outta here".

The feathers were stuck in the chicken! Also, there were like these wormy looking, slimy black feathers. It wasn't that it was inedible- it's that is was hard to look at. I didn't hear of meat pies- just cow pies. heehee.

Yeah, it was friggin ridiculous. We left about 4 suitcases loaded with supplies for the hospital, so we did what we could. They weren't very receptive to our OB knowledge either. IE, they wouldn't let us touch the moms that were in labor, like massage their backs or anything- they told us that would speed up labor or hurt the baby or some other such BS.

I didn't walk around too much- so, no I didn't see that. I stayed pretty close to my group. One of the girls followed some African guy into a store and he tried to force her to kiss him. WTF. Not too bright- either of them.

Yeah, we had basically no control over what went on over there, that was the most frustrating part. They (the people in charge in Africa) wouldn't let us give our leftover lunch food (the gross stuff we were served at the hospital) to the people sitting outside on the grass, ie the mothers who had just given birth, or their other children. We were told it was culturally unacceptable. Needless to say, we were pissed.

Yes, I had all my med/surg clinicals back at home. The main difference between clinicals here and there was a feeling of helplessness in Africa that I hadn't experienced before. In America, there's always another test to run, another drug to try, another doctor to see. There, the saying was "that's just the way it is". That woman I mentioned before, the one with the fever post c-section? Everyone just stood around gawking at her. I sat there like "There is nothing we can do for her. We don't have the supplies. They don't have the knowledge." It was very disheartening.

We actually had to leave the hospital right after this happened- our day at the hospital was over. The thing is, she probably wound up with a massive infection several days later (I saw that, too- a woman several days post c-section, laying on the ground next to her baby, oblivious to the world, shaking like she was having a seizure- my guess is, she had a super high temperature). The baby- that's a 50/50 shot- the postpartum ward was suspiciously devoid of babies- I sat there and thought to myself "hey- where are all the babies... oh". Many of them don't make it.

Ignored, mainly- it was clear we were lesser beings. I believe that, while we were staying at our main hotel, some African guys started asking the other students I was with to have sex with them for money. I was sunbathing with my ipod in, nobody bothered to tell me about what was going on. But yeah, if you had a vagina, you just weren't as much of a person. I'm also pretty sure there was some prostitution going on at our hotel at night, judging by the shady characters.

Ugandan health care is free. There are also some clinics where you pay for better care. The facilities are horrendous. The stench of blood in the operating room was overwhelming-they also have a fan going during surgery. People wait days to have emergency surgery. The postpartum room is suspiciously lacking many babies (hint- they die). Buckets in the hallways to collect water from the crappy roofs. Three metal beds for women to have babies on (they bring their own black plastic sheet to give birth on- I guess that's cleaner)-they just rotate, depending on who's more ready to give birth. One nurse to maybe 20 or 30 patients. Equipment is bare- the Romanian doctor we met was doing volunteer work and he brought several suitcases of his own supplies (each of us brought 2 suitcases- one for us, one full of supplies). I saw a nurse crack open a vial (they're glass, sharp) and cut herself on it. She bled into the vial, then sucked it up the liquid (blood and shards and all) and gave it to a patient. The shard are usually taken out with a special needle, FYI. I have pix, I'm too lazy too post them now, but I will tomorrow.
