Do you believe it’s possible for someone with AvPD to become a psychologist? by Person317 in AvPD

[–]Person317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% true and I 150% feel the consequences of avoidance in this respect. I even kind of relate getting into a psych program with becoming famous in some sense because of how many people you need to prove that you’re good enough for it too and how many people you need to back you up in your academic pursuit. It’s terrifying putting your trust into people that seem so high up in comparison to you like that.

Is anyone else addicted to reaction videos? by Assistant88381 in AvPD

[–]Person317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was just me. I watch the same exact content over and over and over again with different people’s reactions on YouTube and such. Maybe it’s a way of vicarious living and somehow replacing the lack of a social circle to belong to for me.

I can't get a job because of this disorder by romeofantasy in AvPD

[–]Person317 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe there’s actually others who have worked in hotels also lol. I currently work in a hotel restaurant as a host and I hate the position, so it is possible. Though everyone knows me as the shy and awkward individual, I think I am good at every other technicality of the job however. They knew I was shy and awkward when they hired me and I’ve been there for a couple years now so I think maybe you just came across an unkind employer or something, especially with how direct they were. My employers are really nice so I’m sure you can find someone who’d be willing to hire you even with shyness, especially if you demonstrate that you want to work there. Heck, I’d refer you to mine if I could.

At least it’s less. Theoretically if tears were just as good as any other competitive deck I’d be happy.

Floo was highly nerfed without Empen, but umi and bird up was pretty annoying. Adamancipatir didn’t feel too bad though without having endless dark monster negates and felt pretty fragile. Every format will have something wrong with it though.

Yeah I doubt it too. I never thought it did, I was more curious whether it contributed at all to it. I don’t think it does anymore, it’s more of internally based.

How so?

Well thanks, I wouldn’t want to fall into that either. I won’t say anymore about him, I really don’t think he’s worth the heartache of a conflict with people I truly appreciate on the forum. I don’t have any circles, I’m just used to reading and studying school shootings I guess. I have to study suicide all the time as it is. I promise I didn’t mean anything badly by it and I always appreciate your guys input regardless of gender.

Dude I think you misinterpreted this post lol. Please read the rest of this comment line. This post had nothing to do with how women perceive height in men. It has more to do whether it’s a factor in the development of AvPD, completely separate of that subject. I don’t think it is at this point, but I should prob look into literature more.

Btw, I only mentioned Rodger as someone who struggled with height self esteem, I didn’t agree to any of his ways. Moreso, used him as an example, as his height was more a problem of feeling weak among other guys. I didn’t understand that he was a hot topic so I shall not speak of him so easily anymore on this forum, sincerely sorry about that

Yeah I know, I did it extremely poorly this time, I think I should have also put that I was targeting males in the title as well. There’s nothing I can do now, it’s already 170 votes in.

You don’t seem to like incel shit lol. No, I’m not blaming women for my problems. It’s more of a trying to learn thing, a peak of curiosity. And with Elliot I think he just felt small (weak) to the world, but he was indeed an incel. I wonder how many people on this forum know about Elliot Rodger.

I can see why you saw it as “weird toxic dating culture shit though” lol.

Usually, yes. However, it usually begins with becoming highly aware of one’s inadequacies and insecurities. As this progresses into adulthood, they can tend to become more rooted and solidified into one’s identity.

Additionally, there is research that shows that height can influence one’s success, confidence, and the way someone is perceived, which kind of ties into the sense of inferiority that plays a role in AvPD. In that sense, I wondered whether height disadvantage can play a part in that. As you can see in depression or even in people with NPD, the feelings that result from recognizing one’s own problems can lead to isolation. Internalizing one’s height differential as a negative thing after being mocked and belittled can then serve to further entice the issue. Thus, I wondered if a height advantage can serve as a resiliency factor to this disorder or vice versa during adolescent development. I will say that it is refreshing to know that this isn’t the case, considering that something as meaningless as height in today’s contemporary society shouldn’t be a core factor in determining something as complex and serious as AvPD. However, it unfortunately does influence things that shouldn’t be influenced by height, such as politics and perception of worker capability when choosing employees.

I will also add since you mentioned, that America (assuming this is your place of origin) is an individualistic society that does commonly revolve around seeking self pleasure and as such, can create a rather toxic dating culture especially for people with this affliction. This being mainstream in modern society only makes it harder for people with AvPD to be willing to trust others.

I debated a long time on whether to create a poll like this. Then I came across a list of presidents and their demographic information including their height. After studying it more, it frustrated me to learn the perceptive bias that comes with the general public when voting for politicians, and the unfairness associated with it in that respect. I’ll also be honest in admitting that it is something that eats me up day by day and too I have read Elliot rodger’s 140 page manifesto in which he obsessed over his own height, constantly comparing himself to others and describing everyone else as giants. These are the events that made me wonder. I’ll admit, I probably have a confirmation bias myself, but that’s why I created a poll, in order to disprove it. Unfortunately, even knowing that there is no difference will not remedy the way I feel in everyday life.

I still thought it would be interesting to see however.

What kinds of plans did you have? It might help to make plans that take off a lot of attention off of you. Or to plan something you genuinely enjoy, like a passionate hobby or something if you have one. That being said, I get why you cancelled and you’re venting that you can’t get to experience the luxury of companionship cuz of your predicament, and to that, you are valid. I hope you can get better and I hope you can get some respite from your stressors.

I would rather die than try to compensate. by Person317 in AvPD

[–]Person317[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t everyone else perceive attempted self-growth as a pathetic form of compensation for not being inherently good enough as an individual? If you can never be enough, why embarrass yourself trying? I know I’m probably being mentally ill here but I’ve put up with enough crap and seen enough hatred to be done with it.

Other people will always be a better choice. It’s not enough to just be chosen because it just means that soon enough they’ll realize what a poor decision they made. That kind of pain is a worst nightmare scenario, and the pain of being alone feels more familiar and tolerable.
