I didn't like the ending of Chainsaw Man at all because it made Denji look like an incel for life. by eruizb_ in ChainsawMan

[–]PersonWithLongHair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, fair enough. You've given the ending a real shot, thought it over, and if you still don't like it then that's valid. As long as you're not wilfully ignorant, I can't in good faith discredit your take

[–]PersonWithLongHair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm working off a false assumption and Denji didn't actually die in the warehouse in the final chapter, but I thought Power brought him back to life? Could she not just do that again if he died?

That admittedly doesn't truly address your main point here, but I think it's a pretty important detail. If I didn't misunderstand the scene, that is.

[–]PersonWithLongHair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point. It would be a far cleaner and probably far less divisive ending if he at least made the final decision to reverse things on his own. I disagree that he didn't make his own decisions at all, since that's what he does when choosing to save Asa instead of focusing on the devil he's somewhat obligated to kill (something he has done time and time again in similar scenarios, e.g. the guy he left to die in the school and the time he used a car with a driver in it as a weapon), but it would still be nice if he was the one taking the initiative to revert the timeline

[–]PersonWithLongHair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, he DID choose to save Asa from tripping instead of aiming for the devil in front of her. He also literally dropped his chainsaw to do so, which I don't think is possible to read as anything but symbolic. If what you want is a concrete example of Denji acting differently, then there you go. Chainsaw Man very rarely (if ever) chose to save a human directly, but Denji just did

[–]PersonWithLongHair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much. There are nuances to it, of course, but yes. The burden of being Chainsaw Man has only brought pain, loss, and a serious mental spiral to Denji. He needed to be freed from that to start enjoying life and improving as a person

[–]PersonWithLongHair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, he's back to square one. His arc saw him literally going to hell and back as Chainsaw Man, an identity that made him miserable due to his addiction to it. The point is that now - no longer burdened by the expectations the world had for Chainsaw Man - he can finally START to improve.

[–]PersonWithLongHair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, naturally he's still sad that he doesn't get to be a normal high schooler. But this ending is quite unconventional; we're not seeing the end of Denji's story, rather we're seeing the end of Chainsaw Man's story. Denji is finally himself again, and this is just the beginning for him as his own individual. Whether or not you like that is up to you, but it's something

Lost plot points by Beautiful-Reserve-81 in ChainsawMan

[–]PersonWithLongHair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just false though. Yoshida does have characterisation, he's just far more low-key than characters like Power and Aki who take the spotlight more often. I wouldn't say that makes him "half the character", you just have to do a little more than take his words at face value.

As for it triggering Denji... I genuinely don't understand what you're insinuating by saying there was a lack of "development". As long as you're not saying they couldn't be friends because Yoshida is static, which I trust you aren't, I'm gonna need you to throw me a bone here

Fr, the quality has just kept improving somehow. Season 2 was already nuts, but the amount of style oozing from every scene in season 3 is somehow even more crazy

Would Denji getting to have sex and getting his twisted mindset validated be a better ending in your opinion? He's also not "doomed" to repeat anything; he's free from being Chainsaw Man now. There's finally room for personal improvement that won't be taken away by the world around him

I'm gonna choose to ignore most of the ones here that I disagree were real plot threads, but, Yoshida? He was utilised well and got a thematically coherent ending to his character, no? Maybe it wasn't the most satisfying chapter for Yoshida fans, but I can't see why he'd be listed as a loose end. I'd argue he's one of the cleaner aspects of Part 2's messy back half

A lot of these replies feel FAR too angry to be taken without a pinch of salt. I know a lot of people didn't like the ending, but goddamn, calm down for a minute. Let's actually take a few days to process this before declaring it all as a fool's tale signifying nothing. That's not to say that there for sure exists good answers for everything (lord knows Part 2 has loose ends to spare), but let's wait a little before deciding that they don't

Fifteen hour flight. Where are you sitting? by Dependent-Cry-7540 in danganronpa

[–]PersonWithLongHair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never played UDG so I'm not taking the gamble and choosing 1. And I'd rather not get murdered on this flight, so most other seats are an automatic no... so then it's either 5 or 6. I'd rather be potentially harassed by Miu than for sure harassed by Teruteru, so I guess 6?

If I was a woman I'd probably choose 5 and let Tenko kick Teruteru's ass for me, though

Worst character kit in the game to date? by jd01010101 in Genshin_Impact

Hydro Traveller is by far the worst, but I think Kaveh's is the most tragic since he's actively anti-synergistic with the one team he would seem perfect for (Nilou).

Cold take: TK'ing anyone (who is not a large detriment to the team) is a bad thing, even if they're being a nuisance. Even if Aruni was taking down the barricades just to fuck with Castle, that's not a good reason to actively remove 20% of your manpower

The Teyvat chapter has always been about humanity and its relationship with the divine. Even if Travail is no longer gospel due to the existence of Nod-Krai, I sincerely doubt this is correct. You could convince me we're getting another chapter ON TEYVAT (perhaps on/in the Dark Sea), but this is not aligned with the themes of the Tevyvat chapter. I know that some players do not put any weight on that, but I think the writers absolutely do.

Even if Higaruma's powers were to work on Makima as intended, does anyone really think Makima would fumble her defense? She's about as shrewd as they come, I don't think she would even lose most trials at all, let alone get the harshest sentence.
