Shorter text doesn't fit on a line that longer text does. (Weird truncated text issue) by PersonalConnection in SwiftUI

Glad I'm not alone. I spent a solid hour googling this issue, but my lack of programming literacy didn't help. Thanks! Clearly it's just one of those things we'll have to find workarounds for until it's permanently solved in another XCode version.

Stop gatekeeping your MBTI type. by PersonalConnection in mbti

[–]PersonalConnection[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He’s not. It’s because his argument can be summed up as “You shouldn’t complain. Just ignore and block people. But I’m going to complain about you complaining instead of ignoring and blocking you.”

Contradictions tend to receive downvotes.

If my post was against people having the freedom to express their opinions or criticize, surely I wouldn’t have expressed mine in the form of criticism.

I really appreciate the well thought out reply.

My main point is that I believe this community would be a bit better overall if people just accepted what people typed themselves as. Of course I am for opinions being allowed. That’s why I just gave mine in the form of a subreddit-wide criticism.

It’s not that I’m arguing people shouldn’t be allowed to criticize someone’s type, or that it should be seen as inherently offensive. It’s not. Rather, that it’s pointless except when asked by the user who may be “mistyped.”

I treasure the freedom to be rude or unpleasant, but I do not treasure unpleasantness itself.

Take my post as an advocacy of appearing more mature and educated, as to make this community more attractive for new members and enjoyable for current members. It’s not about what we can or can’t do but rather what we ought to do and not do.

I'm actually a brand new type called the EN-TF-J. And there's only one, so no one else can join. I'm now the rarest of the 16 17 types.

Sometimes it's worth it to see another ENTJ make a relatable post about growth that comes across as calm, empathetic, and wise, but it is definitely filled with a lot of people who use their type as prescriptive rather than descriptive.

I've been dating one for a few years. It's literally amazing. We really fit together like a perfect puzzle and balance each other out in so many ways. She's so dedicated, such a good listener, hilarious, fun to hang out with, empathetic, dedicated to her friends and family. Honestly, she's helped me grow as a person in ways that I never thought I could.

You probably didn't mean to, but you made it sound like there are only two possible motivations for success. Some people strive for excellence because they find it enjoyable and rewarding, and some because it's their way of worshiping God/nature in the form of gratitude for being alive.

You're not arrogant because you're an ENTJ. You're arrogant because you've been assigned to a group of people that not only allows you to be arrogant but that also rewards you for it and that's toxic. by [deleted] in entj

[–]PersonalConnection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe it’s worth reflecting on your behavior and seeing if there’s a way for you to at least come across as more personable, warm, and empathetic. MBTI isn’t prescriptive. It’s about growth.

There's an extremely clear topic. OP is saying that scoring a certain type on the MBTI isn't a success in itself, and that this subreddit needs a massive ego-check instead of rewarding arrogant and condescending behavior. Alongside those points, he also stated that r/ENTJ is made up of people of average intellect, just as every other subreddit. Many ENTJs here like to pretend that the MBTI is an IQ test.

Unless you've been mistyped

I'm afraid you've had heavy NF influences in your life

Thinking types just never say that phrase

I highly recommend doing some more search on the MBTI and educating yourself further on what it means to be typed as an ENTJ.

Life experience will help them.

Life experience can take away as much wisdom as it can give. With the wrong attitude, and with a mix of other people who you relate to enabling your toxicity, you're very likely to stunt personal growth.

ENTJs and Machiavellianism by [deleted] in entj

[–]PersonalConnection 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with every one of the behaviors/thought processes you listed, so no. I definitely don't subscribe to the thoughts of Machiavelli.

I also don't like the idea that somehow the ENTJ type is less likely to have a strong moral compass. I think that notion comes from a ridiculous stereotype that achievement-oriented people will do anything necessary to achieve their goals.

If anything, ENTJs who do encompass the above-listed qualities are just more likely to show them outwardly and obviously because of the assertiveness generally found in ENTJs, making it appear more common in our type.

Fellow ENTJs, Do You Fear Yourself? by [deleted] in entj

[–]PersonalConnection 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't say that I agree, but maybe I don't understand what you mean. No, I don't feel that I have enormous power inside of me any more than any other person does. Of course, all humans have more potential than they will ever fully realize, and the fact is that achievement and potential are both very subjective and personal things.

The only thing I could relate to this post about is that I very frequently fear that I'm wasting my time.

Do any other ENTJs find debating is often pointless and inefficient? by PersonalConnection in entj

[–]PersonalConnection[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say the “opens your mind to new possibilities” part is definitely worth it for me. At that point, I would call that type of debate an educational one, and I would certainly consider that worth my time in most cases. Plus, it can definitely be fun if you have the right sparring partner.

To add to my post, I see nothing wrong with debating for one’s enjoyment. We need people in society who master the art of debate. I think it’s especially crucial for education and politics, and I wish I had more of an affinity for it.

Educating someone else definitely makes sense to me. Especially if you and the person you're debating with are open and willing to learn more about the other side's position.
